As a Chesapeake Schools substitute teacher, I get a chance to visit lots of different schools in the Great Bridge or Hickory school districts. I've been very impressed so far with the elementary schools. I have not worked above elementary yet.
My first impression of Hickory Elementary is that it looks like an old fashioned (in a good, nostalgic way) school on the outside. Inside it's very up-to-date but still with a small-town school feel. I love the atmosphere there. It's a clean, well-maintained, and cheerful school.
The class size is relatively small--about 18-20 children per class. I worked in the computer lab and so was able to work with about 10 different classes over 2 days. The students were well behaved and respectful. The teachers were great. I worked directly with the assistant principal and she seemed very competent, dedicated and nice in a grandmother way.
I would definitely feel comfortable sending my children here.
