Long time favorite 11/1/2006

Okay, sometimes the service can be sketchy, but the food makes up for it just about every time. I've eaten most things on the menu, with the red curry being my favorite. My carnivorous husband loves the shwarma, and you can't go wrong getting dessert here. Vegan or not, this is high quality mostly organic food, for great prices. Pros: Yummy vegan food Cons: Serivce sometimes more

sensational veg schnitzel and mushroom sauce 10/17/2006

as a veggie - needed some creative, wholesome food during my week stay in san fran in January 2005 - and that's exactly what I got. busy weekday lunch crowd, freshly squeezed OJ and senational food. \r \r I'm from Adelaide, South Australia, and we have no where near the choice for veggie places that San Fran has on offer. Wish I could live here! Pros: creative, tasty veg food Cons: bit more pricey than some others - but still reasonable more

boring vegetarian 9/9/2006

I am not an Herbivoire fan. I've had better vegetarian at non-veg places. I think sometimes people believe vegetarian food should have no flavor- the food was bland bland bland. Skip it and gets some spicy flavorful somewhere else. Pros: cheap and fast Cons: no flavor more

Got to LOVE this place 5/15/2006

I have never been here and not loved it!! Everything is a perfect condition--staff, food, atmosphere. They have my favorite soups!! I cant even get into how much i love this place. GO!! try it you will love it. Pros: everything, everything, everything Cons: car if you, have more

not quite an oasis 9/9/2005

if extremely hungry, might not be the way to go, at least for dinner. this was the 2nd time i went there in my weeks visit, both times service was not great. When sat, we had to get ourselves menu's. Server appeared to be seating people, taking orders and delivering food. waitstaff nice, seemed aware that they were taking on more than necessary. 1st trip, food was good, however the service lacked/ not busy at all. second visit, food not so good - soup luke warm, salad came at same the time as entrees- timing/food delivery poor. gnochi - too much pesto/ lasagna light on the sauce . we were never once asked how things were/tasted etc. atomosphere - music selection good, decor pleasant. sandwhich for lunch was tasty, dinner sandwhich not impressive, soggy bread on the portabella sandwhich. potatoes cold. Pros: atmosphere, intent Cons: service, lack of waitstaff more

vegetarian paradise 8/6/2005

every time i go to herbivore, it take me forever to choose what to eat because everything is so amazing, and as a vegetarian, i am used to only a few choices. i recommend the grilled vegetable plate. its AMAZING. great place for a casual, mellow dinner. i go here all the time and love it. so happy it exists! Pros: lots of veggie option, good quality food, delicious! Cons: not the most cozy, it can get cold more

Good Tastes for All 3/8/2005

It took me at least a week to trick my boyfriend into eating here (he is a meat and potatoes type of guy). He was afraid of the vegan food, but now he is hooked. This is my favorite cheap eat in my neighborhood. I have loved everything I tried on the menu. Especially the ceviche, grilled portobella sandwich, and the coconut thai noodles. Even though it is a vegan menu, there is something on the menu for everyone. The only downside is a slow staff, but sometimes things can be sacrificed....... more

Way too spicy! 3/8/2005

If you like spicy vegetarian food with overpowering flavor, this is your place. We had the ravioli and the lemon grass noodles. Both dishes were almost too spicy to eat. We asked for some coconut milk on the lemon grass dish and they willingly added it. But it was still overpoweringly lemon grass, which was unfortunate because it was loaded with a lot of delicious perfectly grilled veggies ruined by the strong flavor. It was sent back to be replaced with the Indonesian salad, which we were told was mild. Got the Indonesian salad, it was good with lots of fresh ingredients, but still too spicy-hot to really enjoy the combination of flavors. The waiter was really cool about all of the requests. Although, he did charge us for the lemon grass noodles, which was more expensive than the actual dish I ended up eating. Pros: warm, funky feeling, yummy veggies Cons: too spicy, unstable tables more

Good food, bad service 2/22/2005

I love the food at this place, but the wait staff needs a lesson from Miss Manners. We ordered coffee, in most restaurants the server will come back and ask if you want some more, they will not scowl at you. It turned me off enough to just go back to the slow but polite service at the Valencia location. Pros: easy parking Cons: weak coffee more

The best veg*an around! 9/7/2004

High quality food, delicious, a great variety. Funky little place with overworked staff who are always friendly. We live near the Divisadero location and are always happy to eat there whenever possible. Great veggie loaf! Fabulous salads! Fun appetizers! Pros: Creative, Delicious, Cheap more

Dead On Good Veggie 1/27/2003

there really isn't much to say except this restaurant is great. the food's pretty inventive and always pleasing. the seitan wrap and pad thai are particularly good. right next to the jay's with good veggie steaks, this is a great little veggie oasis on divis. Pros: great food, great desserts, very varied menu Cons: service can be slow more
