Editorial review from Citysearch 1/12/2014

I purchased a new home and contacted Henry Drilling regarding information on my well since I noted on a label that they drilled it. They were pleasant and very helpful, reviewing records and giving me useful information on my well. A water conditioner installed before I bought the home was also in disrepair and the water smelled of sulphur. Since they installed the system, I asked them to repair it. The phone estimate was $600-1200 (""to be on the safe side"") to get in in working order. He sent a worker out immediately. At the end of the day he informed me it was taking a bit longer than anticipated and he would return the next day to finish it. He did. Everything looked in order with the exception of a large pile of filter material, like gray sand, being dumped in my back yard. I called to ask the price and to pay the tab and was informed the secretary had not calculated the bill as of yet. No hurries.\r \r The water improved gradually over a couple of days and then, the smell returned, much as it was before. I soon received a bill for over $2400. I was not pleased, as it was many times the initial estimate, but if it really cost that much to repair the system, so long as I have good water, I would eat the cost. The problem is, the water still smelled. I made several phone calls and eventually, after more than a week, maybe two, he sent a worker out, informing me they were ""very busy"". The worker that went to my home told me, over the phone, ""Everything is ok. All you have to do is flush the system by pressing the black button."" The water improved for several days somehow, and was improved when I arrived home. I secretly wondered if maybe the worker had installed something wrong the first time and didn't want to tell his boss. But then, after a few days, the smell returned again. The worker stated he did nothing as the system checked out and the water tested ok. I received a bill for over $300 for the service call.\r \r I have cycled the system by pressing that black button at least 10 times and the water still smells awful. I notice little change afterwards. I have even drained my water heaters. I am unable to make coffee with it and my showers are horrendous. It is not some subtle ""I think I smell sulphur"", but something I can smell strongly from another room when someone is showering. I have invested over $2700 for my water conditioning system and I note no considerable change in the quality of my water. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I could have bought a new system for the price charged. I was going to call and complain but figure it is useless. If he sends someone out to fix it, it is just going to cost me several hundred dollars more.\r \r The gentleman I spoke to, Frank, was very pleasant. But, at the end of the day, I spent almost $3000 for a water softening system that does not work as he said it would, if at all, at 2-4 times the quoted estimate. Efforts to have the softening system evaluated by him, after it never really worked, cost me even more money, something I consider very poor customer service.\r \r At present, I am stuck with a very expensive water softening system that does not function. I will have to pay another water conditioning service to evaluate, repair or replace the system so that I have palatable water at what is likely to be a considerable cost.\r \r I regret having to leave a negative review, but I hope my loss will save others from a very costly mistake. I cannot recommend Henry Drilling at present. more
