Helotes Pediatrics PA

We found Dr. Tamayo about a year and a half ago. I noticed that there has not been a review written since 3 years ago. Let me be the one to say that things have changed very much since. I love the staff, they are all very nice and caring. I have never had a problem with Dr. Tamayo not being there for us to see. She is AMAZING. I had went to 3 Pediatric doctors before we found her. My daughter loves to go to her office just to see her. She spends lots of time with us, and goes over everything. She remembers everything about her patients, and doesnt have to go through the chart to know what we are talking about when it comes to her medical condition. We will never go anywhere else. They are amazing and worth looking into for a dedicated pediatric doctor. more

I have been taking my children to Dr. Tamayo for over 3 years now. I have a 12 yr old with numerous heath issues, a healthy 9 yr old and a 1 yr old with health issues. Dr. Tamayo has ALWAYS spent quality time with us and has always made me feel comfortable even when I may ask some stupid questions. She has also, on numerous occasions, called me on weeknights and weekends to check on my sick ones or to give me test results, even if she is not the on-call doctor. She really cares about the children and it shows. \r There have been times that Dr. Tamayo may have been out so we saw Dr. Gideon. Dr. Gideon was awesome as well. \r I have seen that several people have commented on the staff and I do agree and have experienced issues with them as well. However, I am the first to say something to the Drs who were very open and glad that I said something. They are aware that there are CS training issues and are aggessively working on fixing it. Anyone that has been with a growing company has experienced the same thing Helotes Pediatrics is experiencing; CS problems with the staff. That is normal with growing companies. So, my response to all who have concerns would be, have you mentioned your concerns to the doctors? If they do not know there is an issue, they can not fix it.. Who are you taking your children to see, the staff or the doctor? I have experienced this with other doctors (non-pedi) but always stayed with the doctor if they are good. There are a lot of doctors in SA but the good ones can be very hard to find so don't let fixable issues, such as a staff member being rude, stand in the way of great care for your children. Maybe you just need to treat the staff with KINDNESS. It is amazing how people who are being rude respond to compliments..even if they really do not deserve it. I really like doctor Tamayo, but in my daughter's one year of life and all the appointments that brings, Dr. Tamayo has been out sick probably about 35% of the time. It's gotten to the point that on the mornings we have an appointment, I just hope and pray I don't get a phone call from her office! Kind of sad and pathetic. \r \r The office itself is very kid friendly and seems clean. My daughters actually love going there because they get to play with all the toys!\r \r As far as the staff and other people's reviews, I'd say the staff isn't AS friendly as our previous pediatrician's office, but they're ok. Some are more friendly than others, but I haven't had a ""bad"" experience with them. But I'm the same way. Just because I don't smile at you doesn't mean I'm trying to be mean or UNfriendly... more

It's really a shame that Dr. Tamayo is so wonderful, but her nurse and staff are VERY unfriendly (especially towards kids). My children were seeing a wonderful doctor previously, but he moved to a further location. So, I thought I would try this pediatric clinic and after the first visit, I was happy. Unfortunately, the last 2 visits were so bad that I'm seriously considering going back to my previous pediatrician (although he is now 45 minutes away). Dr. Tamayo is great, my daughters love her, unfortunately, her nurse is rude and condesending. Dr. Tamayo, if you are reading this, please seriously consider restaffing, you may be losing a lot of patients, and by the looks of some of these reviews, future patients as well. Pros: Great doctor, she takes her time and makes patients feel comfortable. Cons: Front office and nurses are VERY unfriendly and rude. more

I have to say, I love Helotes Peditrics. Unfortunately, i have had to take my kids elsewhere in the past but will now continue to take them to Helotes Pediatrics. Both of my sons see Dr. Wendy Gideon and we all love her. She is great, shows concern and talks to me as if my concerns are her concerns. One of my sons had to see Dr. Tamayo once and I'll admit, I was nervous, but she was equally as great. Even my husband, who always feels as if doctors talk down to patients, loves this clinic. They have a wonderful staff that are very helpful and quick to respond when assistance is needed. I would recommend these doctors to any parent I know, and do. Pros: Attentive and Speedy staff. more

Dr Gideon seemed to be very polite and really concerned with my daughter's health. She took her time talking to my daughter and making her feel comfortable. The staff and one of the nurse....I can really do without. I was looked upon with stupidity when I asked a question and made to feel that I was out of line for making a request. \r \r My next visit with determine if we will return or not. The staff are extremely rude and make the entire experience of taking your child to the doctor intolerable. Thankfully, this city has plenty of other pediatric clinics.... more
