We came here on the way back from Dauphin Island. It was a slow Sunday and we were the only ones there. it's a small little building in the owner's yard. there are picnic grounds but it was stormy.
The food was absolutely amazing. For $10 you can get a very large portion of smoked chicken more than suitable for 2. the potato salad was f***ing amazing as were the baked beans. he offered to make us some free toast as well. wide selection of canned softdrinks - we had rootbeer.
other menu choices included a pork sandwich, smoked slab of ribs, smoked turkeys, and I forget what else. there's a pool table and Rick James played on the radio.
health rating is 98.
the best part of the experience was the owner (Helen's husband I presume) he is an amazing man. extremely friendly and brightened our days with his stories, advice, and outstanding service. he even offered to make me an IOU when i found out they didnt' take debit cards. an ATM is about 2 miles down the road though.
if you're passing through this area or going to/from Dauphin island and looking for some excellent eats, I highly recommend this place.
Pros: service, food, environment
Cons: out in the middle of nowhere unless going to D.I.
