Hein & Company Bookstore & Coffeehouse

I have shopped at this store many times and they have a wide variety of books. When my elderly parents died and left many books that must be gotten rid of I thought of this place first as my dad had many books on mining, ghost towns, geology, rocks and minerals etc. My dad did not read fiction. I had called a number of months back and was told that cash was paid for non-fiction and store credit was given for fiction. I called a couple of weeks ago to see what days the buying was done. I was told Friday and Saturday. I loaded all these books up the next Friday and took the 30 mile drive only to be told the buyer was out for the day. I waited a week and called this morning to make sure he would be in. I was told yes, he was there today. Once again I made the trip only to be told he was out of the store but still in town. The clerk in charge did not seem interested in what I had. He started all his answers to my questions with "well...." I asked him to look at what I had brought as I was parked out front and when he looked them over he told me that they would probably not be able to pay cash for most of what I had. I told him I had been told that non-fiction was paid cash and once again I got a "well...' I could not believe how disinterested he was in what I had to offer. I have enjoyed shopping there in the past but I resent being jerked around. Anyone who has had to deal with hands on aspect of getting rid of estate items will know what I mean by that. I won't be back to shop there again. more

Good: This place has everything....seriously. Who would have expected this in this area? You can't find this type of selection in the larger cities, let alone in the middle of the gold country.. Bad: The fact that it is in Jackson, and I have to drive 2.5 hours...but well worth it.. Improvements: None that I can think of.... Other: One of the greatest used bookstores ever. Period.. more

Hein and company is basically a two story store dedicated to used books. True, there is a coffee shop located in the foyer, but it's almost an afterthought. They carry a wide selection of used books, and will pay cash or credit for books. They have a clearance/budget table every day. The staff claim to "know where every book is" which is no small feat. I haven't put that to the test, but they do know their stock. You can even get rarities, like the old Oz books by Baum. A lot of their stock is quite inexpensive, for the stuff that is still in print or not popular. more
