Sunday breakfast for a few friends was OK, but over-priced, and even though there were tables available the discourteous and sour-faced maitre d' gave us notice to vacate the wind...

Chapel Hill Staple... 8/25/2008

Unfortunately Hector's has closed and I have been unable to find out if it will reopen. The current address on Franklin St is in fact wrong. Hector's moved from the 201 E Franklin St. location to Henderson St below Zogs Pool Hall. I heard Hector's was supposed to reopen on Franklin St but this has not been confirmed. It is tragic that Hector's has closed and if anyone wants to open it back up with me I will be more than happy to buy in. Cons: No longer open more

The place welcomes you in with warm, inviting colors and decor. The food was reasonably priced and the service was good. more

Meet us at Hector's! 3/24/2004

It had been many years since we'd been to Hector's and after hearing through the grape vine that there was new ownership and an incredibly amazing face-lift with a menu to match, we had to give the old Kirkland Granddaddy a try. We were not disappointed! The menu was complete, offering something for everyone at our table. Friendly professional staff, a warm inviting atmosphere, and the food was fabulous. We have returned to Hector's several times since with a goal to try a new dish every time (and dessert!) Pros: Delicious Food, Warm Ambience, Professional Staff Cons: , Wait List for Brunch, No Espresso more

Good, Comfortable Restaurant 3/19/2004

I finally tried Hector's for dinner and enjoyed it so much I went back for lunch a few days later. They have achieved a welcoming blend of interesting decor in a comfortable environment, and the food is very much like the restaurant. The menu items reprsent traditional NW cuisine - fresh, simple preparations, usually with an interesting twist. Nicely aged flavorful steaks with well- thought out sauces and fresh seafood items. Extensive dinner menu. The bar is lively and popular, and one can eat ther if desired. For a casual place to go with good food, welcoming and professional staff, and resaonable prices, you can't beat it! Pros: Reasonable prices, nice enviromnent, Good, fresh food more

Hectors is good yall crazy 10/16/2003

My girl went to UNC and she always on this UNC is the greatest tip but I'll give it to her , Hectors is good. At first I was like ""Where you taking me"" this place looked in the cut but when we got to the top floor it has a nice view and the food was cheap. I got the burger and man was it good. I have had good burgers I mean IN and OUT in the west coast is the best and a house burger is always good but hectors was hagin in there. Pros: Food more

The remodel was nice, the food wasn't 8/30/2003

Our wait staff was excellent, the new look inside is top notch. The new menu tricks you into saying it's a trendy restaurant, then you get your butter flavored hashbrowns, burnt toast, and anything else they could slather some grease on. But at least it's 150% more in cost than other spots nearby. I will definitely return to the building as soon as a new restaurant takes Hector's place. Pros: Great new look, Excellent wait staff, Lovely location Cons: Food was tasteless, Food was greasy, Well over priced more

Definitely the after-party-munchie spot 4/26/2003

on Franklin St. Of course there is Time Out, but you want good food right?! The Double Cheeseburger on pita is to die for. There will be long lines if you get here after 1:30 or 2:00am, but it moves relatively fast. Definitely stop by after a night on Franklin St. because the late-night food doesn't get much better than this! Pros: Great food Cons: crowded, lines after last call more

bum's rush 12/22/2002

Sunday breakfast for a few friends was OK, but over-priced, and even though there were tables available the discourteous and sour-faced maitre d' gave us notice to vacate the window table we 3 were enjoying within 10 minutes, as ""this table is reserved."" Hector isn't generous at all Pros: polish sausage, waitress Cons: rush more

College Memories 9/4/2002

Attending UNC-CH, how could I not mention Hector's. There is absolutely no better place to get a good ol' cheeseburger after a night on the town. Their fries are great and the gyros are really good too. Of course, things are a little different since they had to rebuild after the fire, but the food remains just as wonderful. more

hard to believe reviews on this page 8/7/2002

The first two guys must work at Hector's. Let's be serious - the food is good, but....it's a cheeseburger and gyro place. Oh, I forgot, it was *very* romantic. I think I'll take my wife there for our anniversary. more

Charming and Inexpensive 6/17/2002

I love this place. It is excellent if your looking for a quiet, peaceful and inexpensive dinner. The food is diner fare (burgers are a best bet). Every time Ive went the waitress was attentive and very friendly! So far Ive always had a positive experience. more

  • In Short
In business since 1969, Hector's pre-dated the ""wrap"" craze, offering decent gyros and not-so-decent beef souvlakia. They're still at it, rounding out the fare with hamburgers,...
