Horrible Experience 11/17/2011

These people botched up my car. The mechanic said he could fix it, and then he didn't. I ended up taking my car to a dealership anyway -- because their mechanic didn't fix it -- and the dealership said that the Heartland mechanic had used zip ties to hold something together, such as my ignition switch housing. He had replaced my ignition switch, but, evidently, not with a Ford ignition switch, and so I now have to use a key to open my door and another one to start my car. Also, neither the mechanic or the shop, attempted to call me to let me know what was going on with my vehicle the first day I had left it -- and my keys -- with him to fix, thinking that I would be able to drive it home that evening. I had tried to call him -- BEFORE 5, because he had told me they closed at 5 -- but he didn't call me back. Then, later that afternoon, when I got back to work -- after 5 -- where I had left my car with him to fix, my car was still there and the ignition switch appeared to have been replaced, but the mechanic hadn't left me a key for it anywhere, and so I couldn't take it home. Then when I tried to call him or SOMEONE at Heartland, nobody returned my phone calls until about 30 minutes later. When the mechanic did call me, he told me that the number he had called me from earlier in the day wasn't his phone, but someone else's and that he, actually, didn't have a phone. He, also, said that he was at home at the lake and would have to drive back into town -- which I'm sure I paid for, even though it was his fault that he hadn't left the keys for me somewhere at my office or with one of my managers, whom he claims to do work for -- to give me the new keys, and the old ones, for my car. But when he got there and we tried the new key, the car still wouldn't start, and so the next day he had the car towed to the Ford dealership for me. He hadn't asked me if I have free towing -- which I do -- and so I ended up paying for that, too. The Ford dealership took pictures of the zip ties for me that the mechanic had used, and I was advised by someone else to not even pay Heartland. But I did, even though the lady in the office was VERY, VERY rude to me. I ended up paying Heartland $300, the Ford dealership another $200, and another $100+ to the rental place -- which was conveniently located right AT the Ford dealership. Ahem. How convenient is that? Maybe a little too convenient, if you get my meaning. And, the thing about it is that my vehicle had absolutely no mechanic problems with it whatsoever when this happened! It ran fine. This was really something simple which ended up being a very expensive and time-consuming job, all because Heartland said they could fix it and then didn't. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!!!! When I finally got my car home, I noticed that a soft briefcase that I had had in the back seat of my car that was filled with papers and CDs had been turned upside down on the floor in my back seat and so its entire contents were on the floor. I can't say whether this was done by the mechanic from Heartland or by someone at the Ford dealership, but it had to have been done by one of them. This was absolutely one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a mechanic's shop in my life. They didn't fix it, and yet they still billed me -- very highly -- and they did a shoddy job at what they did do, and I will probably end up having to have it redone later on down the road. If I could, I wouldn't give Heartland any stars. You do not tell someone you can fix something and then attempt it, and then still charge them for it even though you didn't fix it. Don't let them use your vehicle as a practice test for their unskilled mechanics. Don't do it! more
