Founded in 1990, HazWaste Central is a household hazardous waste collection center. It accepts waste materials from kitchens, bathrooms, garages and gardens. It accepts various types of waste products, including aerosol cans, drain cleaners, bug sprays, fluorescent bulbs, automobile batteries, chemical fertilizers, gun-cleaning solvents, photographic chemicals and insecticides. Additionally, it accepts toilet bowl cleaners, care products, explosive materials, medical waste, fungicides and moth balls. It serves more than 500,000 individuals. It is a part of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority, a nonprofit organization, which operates more than 15 communities. HazWaste Central is located in New Haven, Conn.
