When we brought home our new Siberian Husky (from a woman who placed the 5-year old dog on Craigslist) we had no idea what we were in for with him. About a month after we got him (I know, I should have taken him to the vet immediately--just to check him out) he started having problems getting up. He would whimper whenever he would stand. We took him to Dr. Freedman, who diagnosed him having Lyme Disease and Heartworm! Poor guy lived on a porch in the woods of Western Mass. So, we immediately started treatment for the Lyme disease, and later for the heartworm. Later on we moved into a house that we are slowly renovating. As anyone who has ever had a Sibe will tell you, they are very smart and very sneaky. He ended up getting into a room that had lead paint chips--and he ate them!
