Finally outstanding wine country food without being pretentious
The Harvest Moon Café just opened its doors in the former Sonoma Saveurs location in the heart of Sonoma. The restaurant has had a complete makeover that provides an intimate dining experience, and easy viewing of the hustle and bustle of co-owner and head chef Nick Demarest doing what he does best.
Nick has been in the business for a long time. Most recently he worked at Eccolo and Chez Panisse in Berkeley, CA prior to opening Harvest Moon Café. Nick’s wife and co-owner Jen Demarest is the Pastry Chef. She has been in the business just as long, most recently as the Pastry Chef at La Toque in Napa, CA.
The menu changes nightly, but the night I was there the appetizers included: artichoke and asparagus dish, beet salad, Jen’s white bean bruschetta, and a exotic version of French onion soup. The dinner menu included: local lamb, local halibut, fresh three cheese ravioli, shrimp and scallop risotto, and local ribeye steak. All the dished were accompanied with fresh local organic produce. Dessert included a pineapple galette, Meyer lemon tart, and a Scharfen Berger chocolate pot de crème.
The meal and dining experience were excellent, but I think the best part was how down to earth and friendly everyone was. I am just so used to everyone being so pretentious in wine country. Harvest Moon Café is a breath of fresh air!
