Harvest I don't like you like I like Wholes Foods. 11/10/2009

Wow Havest I like you but not really I hate your manager. I am talking about the lady manager. I don't know her name but she is so mean. I wanted to return some items and she gave me a hard time several times. Last time I saw her she said she will ban me from shopping there. Are you serious lady? If I am not satified with any items I have the right to return it. Period. Check out the pics I added, there is a pic and I think it's her. I love Whole Foods more because they won't give me an attitude if I want to return some food I disliked. Read my review of Whole Foods River street you will understand why I love them more. I wanted to give Harvest 3 stars but I can't because of her. The staff is mixed, but some workers are weirdos with weird looks if you know what I mean, the look that says I need attention bad with my crazy outfits, orange hair, tatts and piercings. Sorry to say but it's gross to have at a grocery store it just does not give a good first impression. There is one guy I absolutely love, he is a tall black guy with a hat. I forgot his name but he is always nice with me. There is another guy, he is white with glasses, he is awesome, he knows a lot of stuff about nutrition and more. The hispanic staff is also great and friendly. The Harvest is ok they have nice and healthy food. The prices are high but hey it's quality right? They do have coupons sometimes. I like that they have herbs and spices, you can make a homemade tea. They have a salad bar but I rather make my own at home, I just don't trust them with the washing of vegetables. Don't forget to bring your own shopping bag or plastic or paper bag it will be 5 cents off. I love the section where you can find nuts, dried corn and many other yummy snacks. I just grab a plastic bag and fill it with healthy snacks. I love it. The worst food at Harvest are their chesses do not try them go to Whole Foods asap. You can also become a member of Harvest Co-Op Markets and be part of a vibrant local community-owned organization! Receive an annual refund propo more

Small, but Good Quality 5/20/2006

The place is small and a bit cramped, but you can count on the quality, particularly for the produce. I'm not a "member" (so I guess I pay a little more? not sure how it works). It's no bargain, but it's not overpriced, either. A few years ago they expanded their counter food service (the Harvest Cafe, which carries things you can't find in the store). This is very convenient to the Central Square T stop and has a parking lot in the back, too. They carry kind of a random selection of different things (including non-food items), but you can find the staples here. They don't have particularly long hours (like they're not open early, so if you go to work early you're out of luck -- they open at 8). more

Bulk Grains and Spices, Pretty Produce 3/19/2006

Harvest Co-op has improved drastically since competition from Bread & Circus kicked them into gear. It's been a win-win as now the place is clean, better lit, easier to navigate and has more appealing produce displays. You can get some off the beaten track items here and very lovely fruits and vegetables, both organic and conventional. The wine and beer selection is also decent and the bulk spices and grains are excellent. There's parking lots on both sides of the stores and a metered lot right nearby if you are sticking around . You're paying both for selection and to support an indie business here, and if you're a member you get a kickback in costs (right now they are talking about changing it from instant rebate to quarterly rebate). They really do pay attention to the suggestions book which is fun to read anyway. The cafe has good coffee and baked goods (several vegan) if spotty service. Free wi-fi and yes, you're cut off after one hour as people tend to camp out here for days. Good people watching in the cafe. The bulletin board is one of the most extensive around and changes constantly. Oh - the sushi here is terrific, especially if you get it on delivery day. more

Grody Food Market 8/15/2005

Located in Central Square, the CO-OP is run entirely by members. It is rather grody, poorly mantained and quite pricey, but the concept is terrific, and some of the food items are unique and very hard to find. There is abundant parking available on either side of the store as well as easily accesible by taking the Red Line to Central Sq. more
