90 Years and Still the BEST! 7/28/2010

I have been going to Harry's for more then three decades and love it! Not only do they clearly have the best burgers in CT, but maybe one of the best in the country. I was there last week and they had a sign saying they had been open for 90 years! You can't deny the place must be doing a lot right. The staff are great too. They are always working hard and seem to enjoy themselves. I see many of the same faces year after year, along with some new ones. My children have always chosen Harry's Place over any place they can stop on the way home from the beach, and it's a tradition, just like when I was a child. I hope they are around for 90 more years for future generations to enjoy. Pros: best burgers, great staff, family friendly, extensive menu Cons: not open all year, no other locations more

Best kept secret in CT. 10/25/2008

After flying in from the state of FL, on our way to the Mohegan's Casino we pleasantly surprised with the service and quality food that we recieved from Harry's Place. We had a 5 day vacation in CT and we found ourselves visiting this site 2 out of our 5 day visit. Between the owner, the employees, and the GREAT food it was an excellent experience! We highly recommend this restaurant. more

Some background info 2/23/2008

Harry;s place was originally owned by Harry Smuckler. My father Ruby Cohen took the place over after an illness forced Harry out of work. My dad was about 17 years old. Ruby moved the building from the center of Colchester down the street about 3/4 of a mile and there it sits today. Ruby sold the business in 1977 and retired. Ruby had five children 4 of which worked there full time every summer for over 50 years that Ruby owned the place. The meat came fresh daily and Ruby only purchased the best prime available. If the daily delivery did not look perfect back it went and he would purchase the meat elsewhere. The rolls came from Colchester Bakery daily. My brother & I kick ourselves daily for not taking the place over what a gold mine. Pros: Great food Cons: slow service poor attitude more

Harry's Has Gone Down HILL!!! 5/3/2007

I have been going to Harry's weekly each spring and summer since I was a kid. My family and I have always LOVED the place. Though this spring April 07 we have been there 4 times and I dont think we will ever go back. All 4 times we waited about an hour and a half for our burgers and dogs. When we finally got them the hot dogs were burnt black. The kids wouldnt eat them. The hamburgers were also over cooked and not juicy at all. Pros: All the pros from the past are gone! Went from best burger in CT to worst! Cons: nasty service, very slow service! over cooked food. more

Wonderful place 8/6/2006

Can someone who has been around Harrys Place for decades, tell me if this is the SAME Harrys Place owned by Harry Kinney? His wife was Frieda and I believe his daughter in law, Sofie Kinney Erskine, worked there until the mid 50's. Is this the same place?? Am doing research on the place and the family...anything will help! Thanks!! more

I grew up going to Harrys . Living in Colchester for 27 years its a summertime staple. The only place I will still eat a hamburger from ! Pros: great food, fresh Cons: Always crowded more

The Best In Connecticut 6/14/2005

Harry's cooks all their food to order and is fresh daily. Nothing special is done to the burger but when I say it is without a doubt the most tasty burger in the State of Connecticut, you can take that to the bank. The only bad thing about Harry's is it closes during the winter months. Pros: Great Service, Large Portions, Great Selection Cons: No indoor dining more

Dawn Smith Cushman 7/23/2003

Harry's burgers are the BEST! They use fresh ground beef, soft rolls, a good slice of onion (if you like), and whatever else you want on it. It doesn't get any fresher or tastier than this!!! more

Freshest Burgers Available 1/5/2003

I live 8 block away from Harry's Place, but find it very hard to eat there with all of the traffic it draws. Everyone knows about Harry's Place, as it's been a landmard for beach goers for over 40 years. the same recipe is still working. Give ot to them fresh, fast & hot...........& that's how they do it. The lines may look long, but they move quickly with the experienced staff. Harry's Place is worth the trip............. Pros: great food Cons: seasonal, traffic, parking more

Got Burgers? 12/19/2002

This place is THE BEST burger place in CT. Not only are their burgers FANTASTIC but so are the clams and fries! Their staff and service is excellent too. You may have to wait in quite a line and their not the cheapest place but it's all worth it. No matter how long the line, you can always expect your order to be served in a timely fashion and ALWAYS tasting great! YUM!!!!! Pros: great food, comfortable setting, great people more

Mid-point from farm to Niantic cottage 12/18/2002

It was our stop between the cottage and our farm in Coventry; we have slides around somewhere of the place in the 1950s with the lean-to open and 1950s prices. Hamburger heaven; vegens best stay away from here though the slaw and fries are delish. Only drawback is it's closed in the winter-time and doesn't usually open till April Fools Day, much earlier than the Memorial Day start-up I recall of my childhood. Pros: Excellent rolls, Sweet beef, Great french fries Cons: Very crowded lines, Traffic jams, Rude people cut in more

summer bliss 10/26/2002

No tofu here, but if you want the best burger in CT, head to Harrys. Perfect for the return trip from the beach, the grease from these burgers will drip down your arm as you sample heaven. Simply the best. more

Harry's = Connecticut 10/25/2002

I've been eating gut bombs at Harry's since I was a kid (30 + years). Although the sentiment goes a long way here it still does not beat the fact that the cheesburgers here are just plain good. Every summer; Going to the beach? Lets stop at Harry's! Cheeseburger and a side of cheese fries. My arteries harden at just the thought....mmmmmm!!!!!!!! Pros: Landmark, easy access, ample outdoor seats Cons: Lines in summer, bees (that's life), drooling all over more

HARRY'S PLACE IS CONNECTICUT 9/25/2002

AN INSTITUTION THAT HAS NOT CHANGED NOR HAS IT'S FOOD. IT IS THE BEST Pros: FOOD, SERVICE, STAFF Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

just and juicy 8/8/2002

Harrys place is a wonderful family spot, after a day at the beach or just to keep the kitchen cool. the food is awsum from the fried clams to the fries to the burgers which are cooked just the way you like them and still juicy so grad your family and friends, but dont forget to grad lots of napkins. Pros: lots of food, easy to find, great taste Cons: crowded, needs more seating, not cheap more

juicy burgers 8/7/2002

Harry's is a tradition for 80 years and should be experienced by everyone. There are very few tradditional hamburger stands left. You will not be disappointed. A must. Pros: old fashioned, good food, unique experience Cons: rainy weather, seasonal more
