Harry W Schwartz Bookshops 7/30/2006

Harry W Schwartz Bookshops Bayview - Brookfield - Mequon - Shorewood - Milwaukee http://www.schwartzbooks.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=0 LOVE THIS STORE!!!!!!! Love the selection, the staff is great, the gift items are always fun to look at and buy for that one friend who has it all. Check out a Harry Schwartz store soon! I have one very minor disappointment. I live closest to the Bayview store and this one is by far their smallest store. It's not set up to be a true browsing store. Very little seating and not very kid friendly. (Lots of stuff in a small space!) My son wanted to touch and grab EVERYTHING!!!! The Bayview store is great for purchasing your books, but if you wanna hang out and enjoy the store and their selections - go to one of the bigger stores. more

Supporting the Little Guys 7/29/2006

I believe in supporting Independent Booksellers, like Schwartz's. If they don't have what you need, they're happy to get it for you. The staff is helpful, the bargain tables are fun to browse, plenty of author appearances, nice coffee shops, comfortable surroundings. Find a location near you! more

Lots of Author Events 3/11/2006

I agree with all of the posts already here and don't want to reiterate the same info -- but if you're looking for unusual gifts with a thoughtful touch -- the Schwartz book stores also have lots of author events (more then anywhere else I've found). It's a great opportunity to meet your favorite authors/to hear them speak -- and it's a great way to shop for some of the hard-to-shop-for people on your list. Two of my most successful Christmas gifts last year were signed books -- books I knew the recipients would like anyway and having them signed put them over the top. I frequent their Brookfield location most often and have found that their staff is very well-informed and helpful. more

Good local bookstore 9/25/2005

Harry Schwartz book stores are generally very nice place to browse for books, grab a coffee, or just hang out and read. The staff always seems to know their way around the store and can easily help you find things. Because they are a smaller store they may not have what you want but they will always go out of their way to get it for you. They also usually have some pretty good clearance books that you can get at quite a discount. more

Great location 9/13/2005

This store is conveniently located on Downer Ave., and is connected with a Starbucks, which is really convenient. I like the quiet, library like atmosphere of this store, and that it is local. Like all non-chain stores, however, their selection is smaller. I also recommend the Shorewood and Mequon locations, which also have their own coffee bars. more

Adorable independent 8/12/2005

Harry Schwartz is a cute neighborhood bookstore with a friendly, knowledgeable staff, adorable displays and a great kids section. The magazine selection is good, not great, but you can find the occasional "Punk Planet" or "No Depression" or "Ad-Busters." An added bonus is when you sign up for Harry Schwartz card, they donate 1 % of your purchase to a charity of your choice. The Oakland location has a nice cafe and a really sweet kids section with a large scene "Good Night Moon." You can sit and read in a compfortable chair and they don't seem to mind you hanging out for a while. more
