Harriman State Park - a New York State find 6/13/2006

Harriman State Park, located in Rockland and Orange counties in New York State, is the second-largest park in the parks system. Located off the Palisades Parkway, it is approximately 30 miles north of New York city. The Park contains 31 lakes and reservoirs, 200 miles of hiking trails, three beaches, two public camping areas, a network of group camps, miles of streams and scenic roads, and scores of wildlife species, vistas and vantage points. Harriman State Park's major facilities include Lakes Welch, Sebago, Tiorati and Silvermine, the Anthony Wayne Recreation Area, Sebago Cabins and Beaver Pond Campgrounds. I live near the park and have enjoyed using the hiking (with my dog) and bicycle trails, as well as the picnic areas at Bear Mountain. This is a beautiful park that has majestic beauty in every season. I especially enjoy the fall when the weather is crisp and colors are simply spectacular. Campsites are available by calling 1-800-456-CAMP and the park rangers ask that all guests clean up after themselves and leave the park better than they found it! more
