Worth the trip 3/3/2003

Over the holidays I had family from England over. I had heard of this place so we gave it a look. Was a bit of a long drive, but well worth the trip. The people were friendly. Very rustic area. The wait was not too long and the price was extremely fair. Was the first time we had ever been in a horse drawn sled. Was snowing and an absolutely beautiful area. I was amazed at how many elk there were and that these wild animals allowed us to come within a foot of them in the sled. Not a lot of choices on the menu at the cafe, but everything was really good. Great service. Pros: nice people, lots of elk, not crowded Cons: long drive more

  • The Scene
When the snow falls, northern Utah becomes a winter wonderland where several hundred Rocky Mountain elk come to the Hardware Ranch to feed. Take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the herd, and get a close-up view of these majestic creatures--the large, antlered bulls are particularly impressive. A visitors' center, gift shop and restaurant are also available.

    Facts
Saturday evenings in winter, take a moonlight sleigh ride. Afterward, enjoy a barbecue rib dinner and entertainment. Reservations are required and the cost is $18 plus tax. The ranch is open for sleigh rides from mid-December to mid-March, depending on the weather.
