Run for your lives!!! 7/7/2008

That was the worst lunch I have had...EVER! I missed that whopping 82.5 rating on the way in.You really have to work hard at getting a rating this low. A large buffet with more cold mystery meats than I have ever seen. The vermin on a stick was hard and cold, impossible to tell which dish had beef and which had pork by-product. Run from any Chineese buffet that has french fries, corn nuggets and burritos. I don't feel well! The bathroom was worse than any port-a-john I have been in. Buggers on the wall, soilded toilet paper on the floor and a questionable hole in the wall at the urinal about waist high! (Is that extra???)\r I really don't feel well!!! Pros: Come on! Cons: Run...Run Forest! more

Worst Chinese in Raleigh......No Joke 7/7/2008

If you are wanting Chinese Buffet, stay as far away from Hard Wok Buffet as you can. The resturant is the most disgusting place I have ever eaten in my life. If I had seen the 82.5 sanitation rating before I stepped in, I would have turned around in my tracks. Not only that, the food was tough, cold, and unappealing. The ice machine looked like a fungus grew inside then slide down the shoot and onto the tray. I honestly feel like I'm going to regurgiate while typing this. To top it all off there are boogers on the wall, used, yes used toilet paper on the floor, and a glory hole right in front of the mens urinal in the restroom. Please, please, please, stay as far away from this place as you can. I can only hope that it gets shut down ASAP. Cons: Everything more

A new kind of disgusting. 5/10/2008

I was excited to realize there was a chinese buffet so close by. With a catchy name like ""Hard Wok Buffet"" I thought maybe it would be a fun and cool spot. I should have trusted my first instinct to turn the other direction as soon as i saw the ridiculously sketchy building the restaurant is housed in. The buffet itself is small and basic. Food was COLD, chicken was TOUGH... not a quality I generally look for in my poultry. Nothing was fresh when we got there and it didn't get much better as we ate. I'm not generally a germ-a-phob, but after making the mistake of entering the bathroom I completely lost my appetite. It was worse than anything you'd ever see at a gas station. The rangoon was disgusting, the lo mein was disgusting, the teriyaki chicken was disgusting, the soup was disgusting, and yes, they even managed to screw up the ice cream. There was a strange tinge of rubbing alcohol - not sure if it came from the ice cream or the bowl but either way I was officially repulsed. I currently feel like throwing up. Literally. Pros: coke was delicious Cons: overall nastiness more

THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING!!!! Seriously! 9/30/2007

Alot of these reviews on here are old!!! Hubby and I were wanting to grab some chinese and I had received a coupon in the mail from here...BIG MISTAKE! I went to the restroom as soon as we got there and it was the worst thing you have EVER seen...feathers!!!!!?? on the floor! Mile high garbage with paper towels all over the floor and toilets about to overflow with...gag...you know!! YUCK!!! I grabbed my hubby and we left...but not after having to pay for the drinks that we didn't even touch!!! YOU REALLY COULD NOT PAY ME TO GO BACK HERE! If the cooks in that kitchen that are preparing that buffet use that restroom...wow! I can't imagine how dirty that kitchen must be. Pros: ummm...nothing!!! Cons: everything!!! more

ehhh.. 11/17/2006

this place is hit/miss. most of the times\r i've been there the food wasn't fresh..\r needless to say.. because of that,\r i haven't bothered going back. more

Its good! 2/2/2006

Located on the second floor of Pleasant Valley Promenade off Glenwood Ave. I like the food. As the previous poster stated, the black pepper chicken is pretty good. Yes, the sesame chicken and general tso chicken does taste almost the same. But, lets be fair, its like that at a lot of chinese buffets!!! And it TASTES GOOD and thats all the matters. Hard Wok is cheap and they have a big offering, including many items like french fries and onion rings that picky little eaters will like. Other things I like: the chicken and broccoli , friend chicken wings and the the ""chicken on a stick"". They also have a salad bar and a dessert bar with ice cream, cookies and several different types of cakes and brownies. This is a good place to go if you have the kids or have a large group people with you. Pros: Cheap, Good Food, Variety Cons: atmosphere is bland more

Good Chinese Buffet. A- service. Some food great 6/18/2005

This is not gourmet Chinese. It is a standard Chinese buffet. French Fries, salmon, crab legs, garlic bread, plus your usual Gen. Tso's Chicken (which another reviewer points out, tastes just like the Sesame Chicken minus sesame) a quite good pepper chicken with vegetables, spicy beef with good veggies (only thing that's somewhat spicy). Note on weekends especially in evenings, they will cook a VERY good steak, and fairly good mongolian chicken and pork ribs. Crab legs are supposedly (according to other folks in restaurant) quite good, but couldn't justify a $5 extra just for crab legs. LOTS of food, service is excellent (your cup will rarely run dry). Pros: Great service, plenty of room, good parking Cons: Weak variety, Crab legs pricey, Elevator scary&broken more

Horrible 12/20/2002

We decided to go to this restaurant based on the other reviews. I am VERY VERY upset I did that. All the food tasted the same. General Tso's Chicken and Seasame Chicken are not supposed to have the same flavor. I will NEVER go back. Avoid this restaurant if you want decent chinese food. more

Worthy of a return visit..and more 9/3/2002

Large dining area with adequate spacing between tables. The atmosphere is very plain but since you are here to stuff your face, who cares! There has been a marked improvement in service as of late. Everyone is very friendly and staff is quick on the refills. The food is good. I go here here often and take family, friends, etc. No one has been disappointed. Pros: lots of food, good food, good service Cons: plain atmosphere, but who cares when, the food is good! more

Decent buffet 8/18/2002

Once you have realize that you will never find gourmet items on a Chinese buffet, you will enjoy Hard Wok....we've never been disappointed..fresh and good quality items..no problem with the waitstaff..have been adequate. Pros: large buffet, crab legs on weekends, sushi Cons: upstairs location, dirty elevator more
