decent Japanese casual restaurant 6/11/2008

I am an American that has been to Japan about 20 times, and while Japanese food is not always my favorite, I enjoyed the food at this restaurant. I met a Japanese friend there for lunch. The restaurant is small but it was fine for a small lunch cafe. My friend had one of the sushi plate specials including miso soup and I had salmon donburi with udon soup. We both had hot green tea and shared some warm edamame. Everything was nicely prepared and had fresh taste. The prices were reasonable and the service was fairly quick. The menu inclues some basic appetizers like edamame, gyoza, tempura shrimp, eel; a variety of noodle dishes (udon, soba, ramen) with different meats or tofu; lunch specials (sushi, donburi, bento) ($7.50-$10.50, 6/2008); and some dinner plates (teriyaki, tokatsu, tempura, curry). I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting good Japnese food in a very casual environment at a reasonable price. Happy Sushi 9/2/2006

This place has become my favorite place for my Japanese cuisine needs. They have excellent service and the food is always fresh and top notch. I suggest their spicy octopus salad and spider roll. They might not be as fancy as nearby Shiro's, but what they lose in haughty atmosphere, they more than make up for in quality. Pros: Top notch sushi, cute waitstaff Cons: tiny hole-in-the-wall place, too small to have a smoking section but does anyway more

Make your tummy happy! 5/18/2006

I am a self-professed sushi addict who would only frequent Mene and Noble Fish. That is, until, I found Happy. The rolls are delectable and fresh! Not minuscule and crumbling in the soy sauce like Nami. And the service is always very friendly. They are willing to make substitutions on combos without giving you grief. Ambiance...well, it's in an old strip mall...and it still has a smoking section. But for take-out, it's primo. They don't use crappy plastic bags where the Miso and soy spills everywhere. They actually staple the bag, which contains a substantial plastic container...and lay it on its side. Hey, it's those little things. Check it out. It's in the top three...Noble, Mene, Happy. Best Sushi and Value Hands Down! 10/20/2005

I am a huge fan of spicy rolls and this place has the best ones hands down. Definitely try the Alaskan Pipe roll and the Shrimp Tempura roll! You won't be able to find the quality, variety, creativity, and value anywhere else and I have been all over the Detroit area. more

The best sushi in Detroit 3/9/2005

I've never been a big fan of sushi until I went to Happy Sushi. The place is very small and probably isn't the best known sushi bar in Detroit. The menu is complete with every time of sushi you would want to try. The items are prepared fresh before your eyes and taste incredible. Try the spicy rolls.......absolutely the best!!! Pros: incredible food, friendly service Cons: price more
