Happy Sumo At Riverwoods

Happy Sumo isn't bad. The sushi is surprisingly tasty, this coming from one who isn't a big sushi fan, and as well the selection is very large and assorted. I actually have gone out to eat there a lot, most recently on Halloween... which is when I decided it would be the last time I'd go there. Pros: Great sushi, friendly servers, wide selection. If you have not been to the Happy Sumo in Provo, you need to go! Make sure you sit on the patio. It makes your stay that much more romantic. You have the scenic mountain and the fountain in the background. What is better than a refreshing cold tsing tao and some fresh sushi. Mandi our server was great. She had a great sense of humor and was so friendly! She had great recommendations for our summer cravings of something light and summery. Starting with the carpaccio and then having a solstice roll and a lollipop roll. Great light recommendations. Followed up with tempura bananas split, how do you go wrong? and for a sushi bar it came out so fast! Loved it!!! My wife and I ate here and I must say we were both very happy customers. My wife loves intimate little restaurants and she was in love with the curtain booths happy sumo had. We both were nuts about the sushi and ate every last bite of the rolls that came to our table. The biggest negative is that the sushi is so good and filling that we had no room for dessert! The table across from us was raving about a tempura bannana dessert, so next time we plan on eating a very early lunch so we'll have lots of room for Happy Sumo! I went there last night and the place was packed solid, but the staff did a good job of keeping up with the huge crowd. The sushi, as it always is, was fantastic. I am a regular at their gateway location and this was my first time to this one last night and I honestly can't decide which I like more. For the price, I expect the fish to be fresh and to not have to be drenched in sticky sauces to make up for it. The rolls were kind of fat for sushi. The server didn't know half the items on the menu. Kindof dissapointing for the cost and the wait. We waited to be seated for a while and there were empty tables in the restaurant that never got filled while we were there. Next time we'll try someplace else. more

Sushi is my favorite food and I've tried many place. Happy Sumo has a great variety of sushi. They also have wonderful dinners for those who aren't inclined to try raw fish. I love the service-my glass never went empty. Busy on the weekends, but definately worth the wait. This has got to be one of my favorite sushi restaurants ever! I went to Happy Sumo this weekend and had the best time. I love the atmosphere. It is romantic and so much fun. The Booths are great if you get to sit in one. The service was prompt and fun! She had a great suggestions and let us know a different types of sushi to try like the Lava Roll and the Rising Sun.and recommended Dragon Scales for an appetizer they are great! Try them if you get a chance! The wait is not to long on the weekend about 1/2 an hour for 4. Good times, Good Food, Good people. We've heard good things about the place so we thought we'd go there for our anniversary. The screaming infant was certainly nice. The roll we ordered wasn't good at all, and when we asked if we could switch it, the waitress said she could get us something else, but that she'd have to charge us for it. Good restaurants will exchange the plate and Happy Sumo didn't. When the entrees came, we weren't thrilled. Asuka on University Parkway has food just as good or better and it doesn't cost nearly as much. We won't be going back again. Poor service, poor food for the price doth not a happy customer make. About a month ago, my wife and I went to the Happy Sumo for the first time...and have been there 4 times since. It has quickly become our favorite restaurant for many reasons. Most importantly, the food is great. I was fairly new to the sushi experience and our server took the time to explain what everything was and gave me some great recommendations. Every time we go we get at least one new roll and haven't found one yet that hasn't been delicious. Aside from the food, the ambiance is excellent and the service is great as well. If you are wondering whether or not you should go to this restaurant, stop wondering and just go. You will have a great evening and a fantastic meal.
