Do Not Live Here 4/25/2012

My husband (boyfriend at the time) moved into this complex. The first night ants poured in through a hole in the apartment. When he called their 24 hour line they told him this was not an emergency and he would have to wait, even though the ants covered the living room. Things just got worse after that. After having 2 exterminations the ants went away; however, the whole first summer the AC was on the fritz. When one of the maintenance fellows came over he stated the wiring was ruined from the surround sound speaker that was hung to the left of the thermostat. It ended up just being the $5 thermostat, but they were too stingy to want to switch that out at first. Once these two issues were resolved my husband went and spoke to the old head of the complex and asked her why he should stay-they cut rent in half for a month. Not anything amazing but at least she recognized his issue. Then we brought a dog home. We were told by the head of the Hampton Knoll again and she stated that there was a $300 deposit for a dog and $25 extra dollars a month along with certain paperwork stating the animal had its shots and the like. All fine by us. When we wanted a second dog, the same rules applied. Unfortunately when we moved out the original head of the office staff was gone and the replacement stated that the first $300 we gave Hampton Knoll was a fee, not a deposit. Prior to our knowledge that it was a pet fee and not a deposit our puppy ate a whole in the cheap linoleum kitchen floor. We called immediately and asked how much and when would they be over to reinstall this, they stated a maintenance person would stop by. That is what they continued to tell us, till after a week we just put carpet down because we needed to have a kitchen floor (as this is where the dogs resided when we were out, and the puppy would just continue to eat at the edges). After three weeks the maintenance person finally stopped by and stated it would be $300 to replace all of it or $50-$100 for just the spot, if it was small enough. We decided that the carpet was just fine as it was just at the entry way and we would pay it when we moved out. Amazingly when we moved out the price for the floor went up by $150. We knew the dogs ruined the floor. We explained to the office that we would have installed it for $300 had we known it would go up by 50% in a year. The office stated the maintenance should never give out quotes and would not reduce the price. When we sent in a check for the damage to the management company we requested a call, as they would not return ours, just to talk about some of the issues we experienced so that they could perhaps avoid these in the future. We did not receive a call or a letter. In the end the staff continued to be unresponsive and not quick to remedy issues. While we were not charged for it, there was water damage as the windows were horrible. The wood was warped and stained surrounding all of the windows. The floor in the bathroom had bubbles everywhere as well; it is no wonder that a dog could get a hold of it. In general the thin walls were bearable when our building was young professionals like ourselves, but by the time we left it was comprised of college students or people who thought it was okay for a child to constantly scream. I do not want to hear a TV show clear as day while I?m in the kitchen unless it is my TV. The constant bass and drunken 3 am shouting became too much to bear along with the return of the ants. We followed our previous neighbors and moved out. We happily reside in a house now for the same monthly price with great neighbors. more
