Great Drinks and Unique Atmosphere 1/31/2010

This is a GREAT place for a date if you want to just have drinks. The drinks are big and tasty...there is even a drink that they light on fire! There is no place like this and its next to Gene and Judes! You feel like you are in Hawaii. The only drawback is that they do not serve food...even appetizers would be good. Pros: Great place for a date or getting together with friends. Cons: No food only pretzels more

Sir, I know Mai Tai's and that is no Mai Tai !! 2/4/2007

I don't know if they know what goes into a Mai Tai, but it was obvious from the lack of color that there was no dark rum in any of ours, and they tasted like sprite with pineapple-orange juice. Additionally the drink sizes were small for the price (glasses smaller then a coffee mug for $5.50?!? come on!!). I'd say the decor was nice, and the music original, but the drinks (which is all they serve) would make this place something to miss - go down the road and get a red hot and fries.... Pros: Music and decor Cons: Poor drinks - and that's al they do!! more

Mai Tais 11/23/2006

Love the Mai Tais and that it has not changed in years. If your looking for a unique place to go out for ladies night this is the place. Pros: Drinks Cons: Next morning headache more

Right out of Honolulu 12/2/2005

Get there one way or another-I still remember the visits I made in the '70s and how there has been no change. If you want a Hawaiian mind-meld or want to feel how it was 30 years ago, drop in to this wonderful time warp. The only edible thing are pretzels (oh, they get you thirsty-clever), and dress casual-no tees or caps/hats.But the star: The Mai Tai. Sit in the outdoor courtyard in summer. more

  • The Scene
Decorated with carved wood figures, seashells and bamboo, Hala Kahiki lets you pretend you're in a hut on the South Seas (or in a time warp to the island-obsessed '50s). You're just as likely to hear Frank Sinatra as Exotica while you sip a fruity blend.

    The Draw
The extensive (drink only) menu might get your head spinning faster than the rum-drenched drinks, and the wait staff, dressed in Hawaiian shirts or flowered sarongs, aren't particularly helpful. But it's hard to go wrong. The Mai Tai, which means "the best" in Tahitian, lives up to it's name. For the coconut lover, the Ko Ko Mo is a delicious mix of coconut, amaretto, vodka and cream de cacao. The menu features drinks such as the Preacher's Panic Punch, Missionary's Downfall and the Suffering Bastard. Check out the vocabulary words in Hawaiian and Tahitian to help you make a toast, a compliment or a date. Just don't let the sweetness fool you; these frozen drinks pack a punch.
