Hakone Japanese Gardens are hidden away in the foothills just outside Saratoga Village. The gardens are beautifully manicured and completely flawless. In a sense, if a Japanese garden can be overly perfect, this one is. I found it to be so meticulously manicured that it felt almost "sterile". It was much like visiting a museum and I did not find it comfortable or relaxing. It was beautiful and a great place to appreciate the art of Japanese gardening, but not a place I would spend time in. more

Relaxing and beautiful 8/14/2005

You have to drive past downtown to get to this Japanese Garden. It is a really good place to relax, contemplate, take beautiful pictures and just wind down from the stress of life. It's a small garden, so there is not much walking involved. Parking is around $5 per car. I recommend going with the family or your special someone. more
