Great Daycare 2/5/2012

I had my daughter at HLC occasionally from about 4 month old to about 2 ½ years. When she was 2 ½ months old we had to put her in daycare and we went to another company (in Bellmawr) that family recommended. They were horrible. When my husband would pick her up she would be very wet and hunger. She would cry all the way home for a bottle. Also they would not manage the child to caregiver ratio. Ratios that should be 4 to one were getting pushed to 8 to one in the early AM and after 3pm.The place we not very clean. They were much cheaper and that was the only good thing. You get what you pay for. We pulled her out asap. That is when went to Haddon Learning Center. As for the owner… I never had any problems with her but I always paid my tuition in a timely manner. I usually dealt with the manager Joanne who is very nice. I never had any problems with them. My daughter started there at about 4 months old. The staff in the baby room is great. Jennifer was the head teacher in there and she was great. She loves kids and it shows. She is very knowledgeable which a great resource is for a first time parent like we were. The place is clean as much as a daycare can be. I NEVER saw peeling paint nor dust bunnies. I never had any safety concerns. The main teachers were women and not young girls. They did flashcards with the kids and read them books. Also no TV which is great. At one point we only needed part time care so we pulled her out. HLC only offers full time care. Pulling her out was a bad mistake. We took her to another daycare (in Westmont) which offered part time care and they were horrible. The TV was on all the time. I do not think the teacher ever spoke to the children most of the day. She just preformed the takes like a machine. When my husband would drop her off she would cry (1 ½ years old). When I would pick her up she would run to the front door as if she was leaving prison. We put her back in HLC at full time tuition but she only attended part time. It was worth the expense. My daughter is no longer attending HLC because I lost my job. But if the need arises again for a daycare I will be contacting them first. When making daycare choices we visited a lot of different companies. HLC is the best in the area. Yes, the outside play area is small. But you have to look at all the other details. This is the best daycare in this area as far as I am concerned. Sounds like the previous post may be from a disgruntled former employee more

Totally overrated 1/27/2011

Very overrated place. Know-it-all miserable owner, is abasive and uses fear to manage. She has a lot to say and I personally had to hear how ""wonderful"", power influential, business savvy, always right etc etc. Very empowered like Oprah.\r \r Insulted a family member applying for a job when the place first opened. BTW has been upgraded since. Thats 8 years.\r \r Paint peeling, smelly rugs, the vents had dust bunnies on it for about a year, they were cleaned and it was left was the stain.\r \r The ""playground"" is the size of a barn enclosure. For the older kids, its just dirt on top of a small sloping hill... more

Great for us 11/23/2009

Wasn't always that happy in the baby room - based on being talked down to and feeling like the teacher didn't undersatnd that I actually do know my children. But other than the one teacher, I've been impressed and have both of my kids at HLC. Have to say my kids miss less school than most of my friends kids - much less problems with viral infections and the like so they must be doing something right. They come home with projects and are learning to read and write at a very young age ....and they love it. Pros: Clean, bright, lots of activtiesthat are educational Cons: Sometimes feel like they're talking down to me more
