I grew up on the south side of Chicago. I moved to San Diego in 1990, but memories of my childhood make the Blue Island area something special to me. Haas Tavern on Western Avenue holds many fond memories. I used to ride bikes from Cal Park to Blue Island with my dad in my early teens and play shuffleboard at Haas. When I returned to Chicago in 2006 with my dad for the first time in 16 years, I was stunned to find Haas exactly as we left it. The same shuffleboard table (the same pucks too!!). The same bar, the same phone booth which must be from the 30's. Not to mention the ghost sign on the side. It is a very quaint little tavern, and if you are out for a drink on the south side, you must check this place out.
