A complete NIGHTMARE experience, my 1st and LAST visit to Haandi. I don't know how Haandi is surviving; its operational time does not make any business sense. I am now in Lansing, lived in New York, and grew up as a proud Detroiter. Lately, I visited Metro Detroit for a special event and pre planned for dinner at Haandi Indian Restaurant after reading all these good reviews. I have found that 6 to 10 PM are standard business dinner hours in metro areas. I reached Haandi at 9:02 PM after a good day time activities to enjoy my favorite food. I was told by the Haandi staff at front desk, that today chef left early, so no more set down dinners. I asked what time you close, he replied 9:30 PM. I asked it is only 9:02 PM on my watch, he replied, normally we discourage set down dinners after 9:00 PM. I did not realize, I was actually pissing him off by telling it is only 9:02 PM, but overall the male staff in his early twenties was calm, then he left the front desk completely ignoring me, knowing my intention to further talk. I was discouraged with the outcome but still hopeful that something might work out, as restaurants are desperate for business these days. He whispered something into other staff or probably manager or owner. He came to the front desk to deal with me, I was hopeful and tried to discuss options, if anything can be served or chef can be called back, but he got even more upset than the 1st staff person. I realized, if I asked anything or even a name of other Indian restaurant, he will through me out, as he provided a very nasty look. During this willing to pay whatever it takes to get food episode, 2 more groups with 8 people walked in, but each got the same answer, NO FOOD TODAY, our chef left early today, next time come before 9:00 PM. Basically the attitude of staff or owner was get the hell out of this place, why are you bothering us! While walking to car one of the group shared frustration, how upsetting and inconvenient it was for them and were cursing their bad decision to come to this place 2nd time even with prior bad experience. Later, I found that they had called to check during day time and were told that restaurant close's at 9:30 PM that is why they were upset. The group decided to go to Canton and recommended the place called Ashoka about 15 minute drive. However, it was off from my way to Lansing. I'll never visit this place.
