HORRIFYING, never go there for even a hangnail, I had taken my adult daughter to the ER for a burn she received at work, the triage process is so compartmentalized that the reception did not give the triage nurse information pertaining to the orientation of my daughter, she was in such shock she could not remember house address, phone number. or zip code reception does not have medical training and that is the very first person who sees you on a walk in. The P.A swaggers in, Terrance L Otzelberger, and we explain that my daughter has dermographia a rare skin condition and to keep this in mind as he examines/treats her, he did not observe my daughters countenance or the look of not quite there in her eyes, has no concept of shock, or dissociation, ignores this and states he intends to give her ibuprofin for pain, I begin to panic and every muscle in my being tightens up with the thought of watching my daughter experience AGONY all night, in comes NURSE RATCHET with a bag of ice and water to plunge my daughters hand in, my daughter refuses and told them it will swell due to dermographia, but gets BULLIED by NURSE RATCHET to do it anyway, my daughters face turns white as her hand swells and her body visibly shakes, NURSE RATCHET gets a clue and dumps the ice and makes her do it again, we soak in lukewarm water for a time waiting for the rest of the punishment they call care and debate running out the door to go to ST Vincents Hopsital (escape abuse, run away) My daughter is afraid of medical professionals because when she was small we were on medical assistance and we received much disrespect and harsh treatment from medical professionals, so she is starting to get hysterical and now is able to cry and not stare wide eyed in shock, NURSE RATCHET returns and I demand a proper pain med, so she questions my daughter who can not answer well or fully as she is traumatized, I step in and answer a few obvious questions only to have NURSE RATCHET snap on me, telling me my daughter was capable of answering her. so the plan of care was being hijacked by the staff, no one knew how to treat a burn patient with dermographia, and the P.A. had planned her ibuprofin and ice and she could not tolerate ice so it was to be soaking in cool water, yet they did not think this out because they came in and wrapped her hand in silvadine and bandaged it, pray tell, how was she to keep her hand dry??? and manage pain??? a bunch of unprofessional, cant think past their noses, inhumane, do not understand special needs (dermographia) and did I mention that my daughter is dyslexic and considered handicapped, and i was not allowed to speak for her~!! I type this one day after my ER visit and am in physical pain as all my muscles hurt from cringing till I also was shaking in my boots, I also have been traumatized and I cant stop crying.
