Gussie's Chicken and Waffles

Eat here sometimes because I live very close it's a hit or miss. Depending on who's cooking the chicken is either perfect or not good. My last order was great everything went well. The sides are always fresh the best greens and Mac. When you order tell them you want your chicken fried in fresh grease. more

The food was ok, it had no flavor and was not worth the money I paid (portion wise). I had it delivered and most of my complaints are directed to the delivery boy who had my food smashed and falling out onto the bag. I gave very specific directions because I am very particular with my food and none of my direction were used which leaves me as the customer bamboozled. I will never get delivery from them again and may never try it at the resturant either. more

Awesome, awesome, and more awesome! Great food, well delivered. I have nothing but good things to say. Plus it tastes good. Awesome fried chicken delivered with hot waffle accompaniment and maple syrup. What else could you ask for? more

food delivery service was good. but the food was terrible. i ordered "grits" with my omelette and they gave me "potatoes" instead. the potatoes and omelette was burnt. when i tried to call them to tell them that they got by order wrong and it is burnt, they never picked up. for 10 minutes i called and they never picked up. i didn't feel like leaving a message. the wings and tator tots were ok. but i still have the taste of burnt food in my mouth. more

Food came 70 minutes after order, Eat24 staff cannot reach them after 20 minutes, food came cold (enjoy delicious cold fried chicken and waffles...). more

Food was delicious as always. Fried chicken done perfectly, delicious waffles with a hint of cinnamon. HOWEVER, they completely forgot to bring the mac and cheese we ordered and paid for! When I called back to ask about it they said they would send me a giftcard to make up for it (Never specified the amount) and it never showed up. I convinced my friend visiting this weekend to order again and he didn't receive his order of Wings that he already paid for! When he called back to complain about his missing order and they just said sorry we are out of wings and offered to refund the money. I've only ordered for delivery. Great flavor overall, but the portion of the gumbo is really small given that its more than $8 a cup. Also, the chicken in the chicken and waffles are tasty, but also small. But my great rating is for the friend chicken salad. Good size and has all the things I love in a salad. Plus, extra Ranch comes with! Genius! more

It was a real delight to finally find this restaurant after we Googled soul food restaurants in the area, especially those that serve chicken with waffles. When we arrived, the spacious and lovely setting, the tranquil atmosphere, the efficient service, the warm ambience and the patient servers really overwhelmed us. The love of my life and I really enjoyed our experience at Gussie's, because in addition to all of these other factors, the food was tasty, well seasoned, well prepared and very substantial. Even the music was wonderful, a constant soulful collection of rhythmic r & b treats that served as a pleasant accompaniment to the huge breakfast we ordered. We both were stuffed but couldn't stop eating until we cleared our plates. The chicken was crispy on the outside, but meaty and tender on the inside, with great attention to details on how we each wanted our eggs, waffles and hot chocolate done. It is the perfect place, both romantic yet comfortable, and well patronized by the many who entered while we were dining. We highly recommend this restaurant. more

OMG, I've never had chicken and waffles together before but now I can't believe I didn't. \r \r The chicken was amazing- the perfect amount of crispness, and perfect amount of juiciness! Paired up with the perfect sized waffle that was perfectly cooked and so good it almost didn't even need any syrup other than the fact that I just love syrup.............The portions were a good size and I was full halfway but I kept on eating, because it was too good to stop really.\r \r In addition, the grits were good, as were the fried catfish!!! And the soju cocktail shots were really quite flavorful, but be careful as a few of those and you won't be able to drive home! \r \r Service is great, the staff is super friendly and nice, and even on a midweek evening, the place is busy, despite the current economy which tells you something especially about a new restaurant. \r Pros: Perfect combination of fried food and sweet waffles. Cons: I can't eat it all. more
