Gurwin Jewish Geriatric Center

My mom is there for short term rehab. The place is clean and of course there are some employees who are bright spots and will bend over backwards for you, but they are too few and far between. My mom was returned to the wrong room after therapy. She told the nursing assistant she was in the wrong room, but the NA said, "I've got to go." Then she did just that; she left my mom alone in the wrong room. My mom had to wheel herself back to the right room, something she was not physically ready for. Another NA was downright mean and nasty to my mom and her roomate. My mom was left in bathroom, naked, with the door open. Her roomate was hurt as the NA jostled her recently operated on leg twice. There is no written schedule of when things are to happen (therapy, medical visits, etc. . .). Want to shower? You are only going to get 2 showers per week. Waiting for a pain pill? You may be waiting for a long, long time. Need help getting into/out of bed? You may be waiting a long, long, long time. This place is understaffed, so services are not great. Have you heard how great the food is at Gurwin? Don't believe it. Save yourself the aggravation and go to another facility. more

My ninety-nine year old grandfather has been there approximately 2 years. I can't say enough about the level of care that he gets. Not only is the staff great, but this facility is sparkling clean. Its never pleasant to see a relative in a nursing home, but if it has to be, I would recommend this facility in a heartbeat. This is my opinion only: With any facility of this type, do your own due diligence. more
