New to the area and looking for a local Gun shop to support. Read the review about the old owner and was amused. Also read the reviews on this site and others about how good the new owners are. Have to agree- They are great. Ray took lots of time with me and was very helpful and knows everything I think. I bought a S&W MP15 Sport and was very happy with the process. The owner of this shop was very helpful, I brought in an old shotgun to have him check to see if it was safe to use, and he did so without any problem. Then, after learning it wasn't worth much, but was fine to shoot, I started looking at his used shotguns He gave me many choices and competitive prices, If i end up buying a new shotgun, it will be from him. more

New hrs. and owner are great. Had bad experience with rude former owner,but new owner is very friendly and seems to genuinely care about having customers. I will definitely be returning as a customer. more

I lived in Centerville about 10 years ago, and being an avid shooter and person that has a hard time passing a small mom-n-pop gun shop I was nothing short of AMAZED by how I was treated the instant I walked in the door. This man was confrontational, verbally abusive, and as I was the only person there, I felt unsafe and walked out the door pretty quickly. I was so troubled by him, wondering if it was something I had done or said, that I called when I got home and apologized for disrupting his day and wondering if there was anything I could have done or said differently. He became belligerent and threatened my life. I hung up on him and he returned the call via *69 and left an unimaginable long rant on my voice-mail. I called the police and they assured me the would talk to him about it. It's good to read that I'm not the only one he went berserk on. I'm excited to here that he is gone and another store with nice people are in his place!!! more

I had the unfortunate chance to go into this shop under the old owner. Being a female, I feel he talked down to me (I had the money and a clear background to buy a gun I was looking for) but he insisted in talking down to me and treating me like crap. My husband at the time told me I would not like this guy, and he was right. I did not like him at all. Everyone that said this man acted like he did not want to sell anything were right. I ended up going somewhere else where they actually treated me like a person and bought exactly what I wanted. I just heard this past weekend(Jan. 8, 2011) that a new owner took over. I will go back into the place and talk with him. Hopefully he has a better attitude then the former owner. more

This commentary may be hard to believe, but I swear it is true. I purchased a gun from the owner, Dave, and returned to the store a few days later asking about why the gun might be jamming excessively. While in the store, the owner grabbed my gun out of my hands and said "Ahh, follow me". He then set the closed sign in his store and jumped into the front seat of his truck with my gun. I was a bit confused as I followed him, but later found out he was driving to his own house (in a residential area somewhat close to the store). He then jumped out of this truck at his house and loaded up rounds in the gun's magazine and started firing at various things in his yard. (pieces of wood, etc). As this was a residential area in the city and figured it may be against the law to fire a firearm inside city limits, I ask him if this was a problem. He snarled, " no one hassles me here; I do what I want". He then stated the magazine needed to be properly seated and not moved or touched when the gun was being fired. I took the gun back, thanked him, and then got rid of the gun in the next few weeks. Strange experience. In a fairly recent, but later time in the store I mentioned this experience to the owner, and he looked like he had never seem me before in his life. Have actually been going to Gunsport for many years. The owner is very mean, verbally abusive, and nasty and does not care the least little bit if he has any business or customers; ever. Every time I have been in the store, the owner has been mean, rude, combative and confrontational in a very strange way. I have been in the store an incredible amount times and made many, many purchases (in the thousands of dollars), but each time he seems to have no idea who I am. You have to go into the store knowing you will get verbally beaten up, be as quiet (and quick) as you can, and get out as fast as you can. He is very well known for this behavior by all the other gun stores in Dayton; even in the farthest reaches. If any doubt, just ask about Gunsport in any other gun store and see the reaction they give you. Unfortunately there are so few stores in southern Dayton that have anything to do with firearms any more since many have closed over the years (IE: Jumbo, Highnoon, etc), you have less choices.
