Have to try it.... 5/27/2008

I'm very, very happy with my experience at Gu Gu. Great Sushi with unique rolls, huge menu and a simple - fun atmosphere. Great place for a date! By looking at the front you wouldn't ever expect the quality this place deservers. It's very deceiving. You can't judge a book by its cover on this one.\r Price wasn't bad. We left completely stuff paying $28 a person (2 bottle of sake). For quality and originality of the food, I expected double the cost. Try the God Father roll, 420 roll, and Spicy Natalie. Different and extremely delicious. \r Pros: Good Menu, good quality Cons: Curb appeal more

my favorite! 1/11/2008

the best sushi rolls I've ever had!!! 1/5/2008

I went here for the first time tonight, and was totally blown away. I've been to a lot of great sushi places in LA, but I honestly can't remember having better sushi. Tonight we had the torch roll, santa's tuna ballls, and the specialty roll. Wow, they were all so good my girlfriend and I were giddy! I think the torch roll was my favorite - the chef takes out a blowtorch and finishes off the roll right in front of you. We also had some salmon and white tuna sushi - they were great too. As for the atmosphere, it's a fairly simple but charming neighborhood place. Completely casual and unpretentious. I wish I lived closer!!! Pros: delicious sushi and rolls, casual and inexpensive Cons: too far from where I live! more

Other places may cost twice as much, but this place is half as good! 12/12/2007

I don't know about those ""fast service"" reviews. It took us forever to have our order picked up and then even longer to finally get the food. When we did, the salmon was pretty good, but the tuna was rather plain. Their eel sauce was weak and barely had any weight or color to it. Also, at one point I saw a fantastic-looking roll being delivered for someone else so I asked for the name and ordered that roll. We got something close, but it was not what was expected. It wasn't bad, but if I order a cheese-burger and get a chicken-sandwich, I don't care how tasty it is. more

Delicious sushi in a relaxed restaurant 3/2/2007

My officemates and I often go to one Japanese restaurant for lunch. Today we tried Gu Gu Sushi and Roll. It ROCKED! I think we ordered seven rolls and chicken teriyaki. Our food came promptly (we arrived just after opening) and was fresh and delicious. They have an extensive and creative specialty roll menu **AND** all sushi (not rolls) is half-off all the time! Also, they had the best iced tea I've had at lunch in ages. Definitely check this place out. But watch yourself - it may be a neighborhood joint, but its easy to drop $50 on lunch for two. Pros: Lots of parking, lots of creative sushi options Cons: Steep prices (hey, it IS sushi), somewhat slow refills more

Gud Sushi, Gud Price 11/2/2006

A co-worker suggested we go there for lunch, as he's been there a few times and loves it. He was right. I'm pretty much a sushi snob, in that I don't like to wait 2 hours for a table/seat at the bar, I don't feel good sushi should burn a hole in your wallet and I like it served quickly. Gu Gu Sushi met all these criteria. We ordered a few pieces of salmon and yellowtail, which were great. Those were followed by a spicy tuna roll (fabulously spicy), a dragon roll (huge cut roll) and the lobster tempura roll (really good). That was enough for lunch, but on the way out I checked the hours and they're open until 10:30 most days, 11:00 on Fridays and saturdays and 10:00 on Sundays. The bf and I both work crazy hours, so I'm adding this to my list of late-night places to visit for those days we feel like letting someone else do the cooking. I'm anxious to try more of their sashimi and rolls. Pros: Good sushi and when we were there, it was 50% of sushi! Cons: Small tables, but we sat at the bar. I heard it can get really crowded at dinnertime. more
