CTichnor is totally wrong. Gabe's has excellent food, especially for a place that is little more than a ""hole in the wall"". Menu gets updated often and there are always creative specials that are wonderful. You have to try his soups, particularly anything with the word ""chowder"" in it -- FANTASTIC! This is no ordinary ""deli"" with simple, unimaginative subs and sides. Very eclectic choices very well prepared (even the hamburgers, despite what CTichnor has to say - more on that below). In short, don't come to Gabe's for nice china or fancy surroundings; come for darn good food in a casual, relaxed atmosphere.
I too was there that day when this rude customer came in. The infant was indeed screeching his lungs out constantly, and while this is to be expected on occasion from a young child, the parents did NOTHING to calm or sooth their poor child. Very rude to everyone else in the place and thus no surprise that the father would be rude to the owner. He made an unreasonable stink that his burger was not cooked well enough and that it came with no lettuce and tomato. Fine, send it back for a little more time on the grill and next time ask for the extras (that's why they call them ""extras"" - duh. This is not BK or Micky D's but one of the best, freshest burgers around). The only rude, raised voice I heard was this customers. Even though she did not have to, Gabe's wife apologized for the underdone burgers - and offered them a free meal - but this guy still had a bug up his butt and continued to be rude. There was just no pleasing him.
So don't listen to this guy's bad review. He had a bad experience as a result of his own behavior. Don't make it worse by giving his opinion any credence.
Pros: Great food, good folks
Cons: needs more seating
