Want to have some fun? Want to see some AWESOME cars? Want to hear some great bands? Contests? Good food? Heart-thumping action and more?
Well, if you answered YES to ANY of the questions I asked above - then you MUST attend the 9th Annual RIVER CITY ROD RUN 2006 - which takes place
July 7, 8, 9 at the Greyhound Park http://www.gpeventcenter.com/ in Post Falls, Idaho!
We attend the River City Rod Run every year! And we always look forward to it and have such a fun time! It's full of action and there are SO many things to look at as well. Lots of vendors, great classic cars, great food, vendors and more!
Some of the most popular events at the River City Rod Run each year are the:
~ Miss Hot Rod Bikini Contest
~ Mr. Hot Rod
~ Fireworks
~ Burn Out Contest
~ Classic Car & Motorcycle Show & Shine
~ Wheel Standers
~ Flame Throwing Contest
~ Demolition Derby
~ Live Concerts
The Burn Out Contest is by far my most favorite event alongside the Demolition Derby. In the Burn Out Contest, the participants get out on the asphalt in their vehicles and literally "burn the rubber" off their tires. It creates a cloud of smoke that can be seen and "smelled" for miles! Many of them end up popping their tires as a result of them getting so hot. I, personally would NEVER do this to my vehicle - but it's fun watching other people do it to theirs! And the smell is horrendous, I went when I was pregnant and it made me ill! You need to come experience the smell of burning rubber first hand to appreciate it!
This year, the bands they have performing are: Quiot Riot, Foghat, John Kay and Steppenwolf. Talk about a great line-up - sure to be a crowd pleaser!
The first year of the River City Rod Run was back in 1998, they had 9,000 spectators and 250 street rods. Last year, 2005, they had 22,500 spectators and 735 street rods. This year, they are expecting those number to RISE again!
Tickets are a bit more spendy this year, I noticed (but that won't stop us from attending)http://www.hotrodcafe.com/2004_rod_run/ticket_information.html and can be purchased by the "day" or at a weekend rate! You can purchase them at the gate, at the Hot Rod Cafe ( 208-777-1712) or at Tickets West (1-800-325-SEAT).
There are also many nearby hotel/motels http://www.hotrodcafe.com/2004_rod_run/hotel_information.html in the area. It's best to book early though as these motels tend to fill up VERY quickly for this weekend.
It's a great event that is fun for the entire family! My son attended his very frist River City Rod Run when he was just 4 months old!
