Best

Southern style just the way I like it! The fried chicken that is drizzled with honey...the broccoli casserole and creamed corn soooo good...and finish it off with Coconut cream pi...

Worst

I really don't get why people seem to think so much of this place: I definitely didn't care for the ""Californian"" take on classic Southern cuisine (although I think the owner is...

Big Portions...not so good food 12/13/2002

It took over 2 hours to get in and out of there. One of us ordered fried chicken, the menu warns 30 minute wait, 30 mins turned into an hour. The fried chicken was not very tasty....the honey dripping all over it was strange. The chicken pot pie had two hard frizbee disks as the pie....one on the bottom one on the top. The shrimp and cheese grits were good, as was the meatloaf. The broccolli casserole doesn't have rice in. There is NO sweet tea here. Southern style cooking with NO sweet tea? Come on. Ordered pie...believe it or not, the pecan pie was so salty it couldn't be eaten. The list of homemade icecream is endless and the pistacchio was good. The one redeeming thing in the ill fated visit was the waitress bought our desserts to try and compenstate for our horribly long wait for our meal Pros: big portions, homemade dessert Cons: long wait, waitress or comedian? more

Not Southern Fried 10/31/2002

The chicken is fried skinless in a flavorless batter with a spicy sweet sauce poured over it. As part of her witty introductuion the waitress introduced herself as Hiedi Ho and told our 8 year old son that ""he could call her Hiedi or Hiedi Ho but don't call me Ho."" We do not think that this is appropriate. The price was high for large portion of rather ordinary food. more

Diamond in rough 10/26/2002

Southern food without the grease, southern hospitality without the caricature. A little tough to find, but follow Mapquest to be rewarded. Prepare for a wait, but in good weather the patio and herb/wildflower garden makes that palatable. Also prepare for no greens salads--the small kitchen in this converted house didn't have the refrigeration room available. Nightly specials are usual fresh seafood; a great standby is the plum-glazed rotisserie chicken. Wine and beer list is thoughtful though limited. Bill Greenwood's usually in the kitchen and is unmistakable. Waitstaff is attentive and exceptionally friendly and relaxed--don't come here if you prefer stuffy, haughty prim-and-proper attendants. If you can, save room for pie--fresh fruit in season, chocolate cream, etc. I'd suggest splitting one slice among 3-4. Oh, and always bring cash or checks--they've never taken credit cards, but they will take promises to pay without question or without a hint of suspicion. Pros: Exceptional service, Great, reliable food, Charm Cons: Parking, no green salads, no credit cards more

Better than Grandma's 10/2/2002

Okay the people voting for chicken are obviously insane. How could a chicken chain possibly produce better fried chicken than cooked to order joint? Greenwood's is by far the best in the city. Do not hesitate to try this quirky establishment. but be prepared to wait. Pros: The best pies, The best chicken, the best veggies Cons: No credit cards, always crowded more

great all around restaurant 8/22/2002

Greenwood's is the best restaurant around, period. No reservations, so be sure to get there early unless you want to wait (which isn't so bad - check out the antique shop across the street or Bill Greenwood's gardens). The portions are huge, so you're getting two meals in one. Their fried chicken is honey- and pepper-dipped and totally unique; shrimp and grits, a special, could feed four. Try as many veggies as you can (especially the creamed corn and the sweet potatoes) and take home a slice of pie if you're too full to eat it right there. You won't regret it. more

Down-Home Delicious 5/20/2002

Better skip lunch if you're coming here for dinner. Go ahead and skip breakfast while you're at it. Portions are huge and incredibly tasty. Plump shrimp and creamy grits are a wonderful combination. Sea bass and fresh vegetables are other tasty favorites. Pros: great food Cons: in the 'burbs more
