Just gets better and better. The chef at Green Pastures refuses to ever think the food selection is...

Worst

Prices are high for what you get and the menu is very limited. The place has a musty scent, with NO atmosphere. I heard that the place has been bought and sold - perhaps this is...

wow. WOW! 4/23/2005

I just love this place. It is like going to an old mansion museum, except you get to eat and lounge around as long as you like, and you are treated like family. Many of the waiters seem like they've been here for years...definitely old school service, so you should come with the right attitude and be ready to be pampered. Brunch is wonderful and comes with free booze!(milk punch), though can be a little bit of a crowd. Dinner is better in my opinion, romantic, quiet, tiny dining rooms with only one or two other couples. In the winter the fireplace is nice for a photo. Pros: milk punch, romantic at night, amazing food Cons: brunch kind of a zoo, it's in da HOOD, bring your $$$ more

Great Food and Service 9/11/2003

We have been here quite a few times and every time have had a wonderful eperience. Each time I have been with my boyfriend and we are always seated in a room with other couples so it's nice and quiet. The servers are always attentive, never rude or upitty as is common in some of Austin's nicer restaurants. The veal dishes are always so wonderful I want to savor every bite. The Ribeye and Filet Mignon have also been good choices. The bananas foster is wonderful and is something all patrons should try once we get it everytime. Overall Green Pastures is worth the splurge for a superb dinner and awesome service. Pros: Service, Bananas Foster, Veal dishes more

Great Atmosphere, But the Food is so-so 2/14/2003

I love fine dining and the atmosphere at Green Pastures. However, there is VERY little on the menu that isn't soaked in butter sauces or is rich to the palate. The last time I was there my stomach was suffering the entire time after the meal was finished. more

quiet 10/24/2002

We went there for an anniversary dinner and really enjoyed it. Set in a historic building, the atmosphere was really laid back. There were no other diners at the restaraunt when we arrived early. The meal was good and the service was excellent. The server kept bringing us little extras between courses that we were entirely surprised with. more

STILL SPECIAL""AFTER ALL THESE YEARS"" 10/14/2002

GREEN PASTURES is still a special place to dine, when in Austin, Texas. I was introduced to GREEN PASTURES when I was 18... and the food, service, and ""plantation atmosphere"" captivated me. Through the ensuing 35 years, I have tried to return to the restaurant as opportunity allowed... like ""visiting an old and dear friend."" The menu has changed over the years, as our palates have changed; but the quality and appeal has remained. I salute the owners and staff of GREEN PASTURES for carrying on their tradition of preparing excellent foods and serving them Graciously and Professionally. Because of their dedication, GREEN PASTURES is still special after all these years... Pros: Food Quality, Fabulous SERVICE, Ambience Cons: N/A more

Quite and Dark 8/28/2002

very quite and dark a place you can be romantic with the love of your life more

I regret not trying this place sooner 8/19/2002

I'd heard of Green Pastures over the last eight years , but, we hadn't eaten there until last Friday night. Afterwards my wife and I both regretted not trying it sooner. The Potato and Onion Gallete and Seared Ahi Tuna appetizers were perfect. The prime rib was terrific, but the sesame crusted salmon with tempura lobster was even better. Bananas Foster was great and is always fun to watch being made. Regardless of what you spend, I think you'll feel like it was worth every penny. It's really special. I think Sara was our waitress and she took great care of us without being too formal -- just perfect. Before dinner be sure to have a drink in the 1888 Bar upstairs. The restaurant and bar have a quiet charm that is a great contrast to the crowded nouveau riche establishments around town that really don't compare to Green Pastures. Pros: Food, Service, Amosphere Cons: Limited Wine List but, some very good wines, are still offered. more

an ENGAGING evening 8/17/2002

This restaurant is perfect for special occasions. I took my wife here the evening I proposed to her. It's romantic and quiet, the food is excellent, and the servers are attentive but do not rush you through the meal. Tables are spaced enough so that you don't carry-on a conversation with your neighbor, and the small grounds are a sort of haven within the city. Highly recommended for romantic and memorable occasions. Pros: Romantic, Easy parking, Excellent food Cons: Expensive more

I love Green Pastures. My husband and I wered married there. They did a fabulous job with the food at the wedding. Every time we go to dinner there, it is wonderful, too. The atmosphere is great, you can take a walk around there beautiful grounds after dinner. more

sunday feast 5/20/2002

I took my parents who were in from out of town to eat brunch here expecting the usual omelets, ect. and what I found was a spread of food fit for a king. They had everything from smoked salmon and fresh shrimp cocktail to roast beef and a full table of fabulous desserts. The best part however was the milk punch. I can't do it justice, so you will just have to try it for yourself. The house and the grounds are pretty impressive too...definitely worth a try! more
