Soon after we got into Vermont, my fiancee and I stopped at Green Mountain Orchards. I'd never even seen an apple tree, let alone picked my own apples, so I was ready for the experience.
Green Mountain Orchards has a little bit of everything. You can pick your own apples, but they also sell different varieties of apples. It was so pretty to see all the colors of red, green and yellow apples displayed. They were also selling pumpkins when we were there. Between the displays of pumpkins and apples, it really looked like fall. Their store sells lots of apple products, including pies, doughnuts, cider, jams and butter. One of my favorite things about Green Mountain Orchards was the WARM apple cider doughnuts! I had never tasted one and it was heavenly.
We picked a few apples, then bought some more apples along with a gallon of apple cider to take on the road with us. The apples were a great snack to have in the van as we traveled. We enjoyed the cider in the van and at campsites in the evening. We especially enjoyed the cider, which we warmed up over a campfire, when we were in Bar Harbor. By then, it was getting pretty cold!
The folks at Green Mountain Orchards were very friendly. If you're there on the right day, you can watch them make apple cider in a huge press but they weren't doing that when we visited. It was a fun stop and an enjoyable way to stretch our legs.
