Let me preface this by saying I hadn't been expecting such a delicious Greek-style restaurant in this corner of the country. I haven't tried similar places (it's greek to me, etc) in the tacoma area so really have no basis for comparison, but my money is on Johnnie's regardless. They put places in NYC to shame. the staff is always cordial and efficient, even when I use the drive-through at the peak of dinner hour. They make sure that my order is 100% correct before giving me a total. And oh, the best part--- FOOD. I've ordered all the variations of the gyros on the menu, and the baklava. Lamb gyros are my personal favorite, although the beef version is quite tasty as well. The chicken gyro contained a blend of spices different from the beef and lamb versions, wasn't much to my liking. The pita is always warm and never soaked from the tzatziki, which is a wonder because these gyros are STUFFED. Tomatoes, white onion slices, lettuce, meat and sauce combine to make a monstrously heavy, and absolutely delicious gyro. Feta is an option listed on the menu, and I can't recall if chips (fries) are listed as an additional topping but I'm sure they'll be more than happy to accommodate. The baklava is heaven, honey-heavy and crispy phyllo. There is a chocolate-covered version available, which sounded strange to me but in reality is quite the treat. As for cost- the only reason I don't go here every day. About 6 dollars including tax for just a gyro, which isn't a bad price, but if you love it as much as I do, it's going to add up. I visit typically once-twice a week, and am looking forward to trying some of the other menu items.. Moussaka, souvlaki, falafel as well as their pizzas.
Pros: Delicious food, attentive and friendly staff
Cons: I wish they delivered..
