I really don't know what the future holds for Great Southern. The day JC Penney's closed its doors, I think that was the beginning of the end for this former giant of a strip mall. Aside from the nearby Wendys, the few restaurants and carry-out shops, and the assorted craft stores, this mall needs some serious help. My family used to depend on many of the stores for everyday essentials, but the advent of closer and bigger malls might just mean the death of this outdated classic. more

A rollercoaster of a strip mall 3/12/2006

Great Southern Shopping Center has been one long roller coaster of a strip mall. After many gains (little shops and restaurants) and a huge loss (JC Penneys), the big stores here are TJ Maxx, Payless, and several craft and handmade goods stores. It hasn't been the same since JCPenney's and it's corresponding home store left for greener pastures in Robinson, so I don't see this place getting much better. For selection and quality, do yourself a favor and drive to South Hills Village. more
