So I moved to Pacific several months ago and visited the Great Pacific Coffee Co for the first time this past Sunday. I'd been hesitant to visit the establishment due to bad stories I'd heard from family and friends (bad service, dirty, etc). However, I love small local joints and really wanted to give this place a shot, so my family decided to stop in for lunch after church on Sunday. I'll break it down:\r
\r
ATMOSPHERE: Very cool building, but unfortunately it is not well kept. Things are dirty, dark, and in disrepair. Surfaces felt sticky (especially our table) and, despite sitting in the non-smoking section, the restaurant reeked of cigarettes. \r
\r
In addition, I was expecting a coffeehouse atmosphere (due to the name), but when you walk in, it feels more like a local tavern. The bar proudly displays tons of liquer, there's sports on the tv, and the place has that ""old spilled beer"" smell that taverns tend to acquire. \r
\r
FOOD: Again, not the greatest. In truth, it reminds me of typical tavern food. We went for lunch, so the menu was limited. The selection is typical sandwiches, burgers, etc with limited sides (potato chips, cottage cheese, etc). However they were out of several items. \r
\r
We wound up chosing the BLT with cottage cheese and Hamburger with chips. It was alright - nothing to write home about, but it tasted ok, similar to cafeteria food. My only issue was the price vs portion sizes. Our bill was $24. Pricey for the quality & quantity of food we recieved.\r
\r
SERVICE: This was both good and bad. When we walked into the restaurant, we were ""greeted"" by a grumpy bartender. He simply ignored us, despite there being only 1 person at the bar. After flagging him down, I informed him we'd never been there before and asked if we should seat ourselves.\r
\r
After an awkward moment, a wonderful waitress came to our rescue. She was the one bright spot of the meal. She took us to a table. She was friendly, attentive, and did a great job. Too bad the rest of the experience didn't match her enthusiasm.\r
\r
OVERALL: I would not recommend this place. There are many better places to eat in Pacific. Next time, I will take my $24 elsewhere.
