The people at Great American Tire in LINDENHURST are great. I had a new set of wheels that I wanted tires mounted on and they required special attention for balancing due to size and the fact that they're aluminum wheels and they did it no problem. They also went out of their way to get a new set of lug nuts because the ones I had on the old wheels would be damaging to the aluminum rims. These are great people who go out of their way to keep customers happy, and their vehicles safe.
However, I would recommend to STAY AWAY from Great American Tire in GURNEE. I gave them a call before calling the Lindenhurst location and told them I needed a set of tires swapped to a new set of wheels and needed them balanced as well. The guy on the other end of the phone asked me the size and I told him they are 35 inches by 12.5 inches and for a 15 inch wheel. He said no problem, bring it in and we can do it. So I drove over there, parked and went inside, and was greeted by a man who asked what I wanted. I told him what I needed done (exactly what I told the guy who I spoke to on the phone, who was standing right next to him), to which he replied "Oh no, we can't do that. No way. Our machine won't handle it." So I proceeded to tell him that I spoke to the man standing next to him on the phone, and he said it would be no problem. The man I spoke to on the phone had a look of confusion on his face, as if he was confused as to why the guy told me the machine wouldn't handle it. So out the door I went, along with 30 minutes of my morning that I'd never get back. It was only a short distance from my house, but it's really the concept of it all. I told them very specifically what I needed done, and they told me they could do it. So I went there, expecting to have it done. I think that the most likely issue was the man didn't want to deal with lifting 35 inch tires off of the truck and onto the mounting/balancing machines, so he was just too lazy to do it and didn't want to deal with the complications of balancing a larger tire. However, another possibility is that they might not know how to properly use their machines, which is another cause for concern of this place. In either case, it's reason to be wary about them working on any part of your car... Especially things like tires and brakes. So save your time and money and drive a few miles further up Grand into Lindenhurst!
