Director of the Animal Shelter, Dawn Little, and the Gratiot County Commissioners are responsible for the outdated policies and procedures in use at the animal shelter. In fact, five of the commissioners: Mark Knowles; David Eldridge; William Dilts; Jan Bunting; and Roland Merignac voted to renew a five year contract with Jim Woudenberg, owner of R&R Research. So pets that aren't gassed in a barrel by Dawn Little and her staff are given to R&R Research to be used in undisclosed experiments. \r
The AVMA recommends euthanasia by injection, and MI House Bill 4263, the Humane Euthanasia of Shelter Animals Act, would ensure that shelter animals would only be euthanized by an injection of sodium pentobarbital. So why in 2009 is Dawn Little and her staff still gassing animals in a barrel? Are they too lazy to complete their certification or do they like to pretend they work in a 1930's prison camp? \r
The shelter is only open to the public Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10a - 4:30p.\r
Pros: New commissioners can be elected and new directors hired
Cons: Gratiot Gives Pets to R&R Research or Gasses Them In a Barre
