This was our second year in a row staying at the Grassmere, and we had an even more delightful stay this time around. We were expecting our room in the ""back house"" to be tighter and less comfortable than last year's spacious accommodations in the ""main house,"" but it turned out to be quite charming and just perfect for a family of three. Everything was both clean and worked well. Breakfast was hearty, with a wonderful variety of fruit. The playground and basketball court make it the ideal place for kids. As the array of flags on the front porch suggests, the place also has a very cool international flair to it; we got to chat with guests from Austria and Germany over breakfast and on the porch. One could also not ask for a better location; the hotel is right down the road from a beautiful beach, right around the corner from downtown shops and restaurants, and just a short walk from the Hampton Synagogue.\r \r What really makes the Grassmere so wonderful, though, are the folks who run it. Peter is the NICEST guy, who always goes the extra mile to provide the finest in hospitality. For instance, at breakfast he provided fruit for guests from his own stash and lent us his beach pass twice. Then, to our amazement, he allowed us to stay a third night for free only because it had rained the day before and he wanted us to have one nice beach day. The employees are equally gracious and helpful; when we checked in late at night, I asked the clerk on duty, Jackson, if there was anything I could drink a beer from. He found and hand-washed for me an authentic metal-rimmed Stella Artois glass - awesome! The lady who worked during breakfast, whose name I never found out, was also extremely polite, cheerful, and attentive. In short, the Grassmere Inn is THE place to stay in the Hamptons. THANK YOU to Peter and staff for making our stay such a pleasure. We'll be back!\r \r Ron, Marisa, and Alexander Georgalis\r Great Neck, NY\r more

Would have rather slept in rental car 12/27/2008

This bed and breakfast is horrid. I can't believe that the state allows it to operate for health, sanitary, and safety reasons! We stayed there for a weekend for a wedding and I was super hung over on Sunday so I decided to try the juice in the kitchen on that day only and realized I swallowed a mouthful of fruitflies which the receptionist who was 15ish refused to replace while other guests slurped down the same. Save yourself the money and the hassle- the beds and rooms were filthy and the location is not stellar to say the least! You will hear the juvenile sounds of underage tennis players through the very thin walls as well. I was drunk and could still hear it. This place makes the La Quinta look like the Ritz. Great Location! 11/19/2008

The location is perfect, you are right near the main street shops and restaurants, and a nice walk to the beach and through incredible neighborhood streets, gorgeous homes/mansions. more

You will feel like you are at the house of a friend who has a great summer share in the Hamptons. 8/11/2007

If you like tennis, easy access to all the Hamptons has to offer, then you are going to love it here. Tennis lessons and clinics are top notch. We traveled with a group that included non-tennis players. There was plenty for everyone to do with shopping, beautiful beaches, a performing arts center and a spa all within walking distance. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and quiet. The decor was so quaint with pastel quilts and pretty woodwork . Peter, his staff and the fellow guests are so warm and friendly. Solo travelers would do well here. It is as relaxing or as active as you want it to be. Pros: Warm friendly staff, excellent service, close to beach, shopping and dining. Great tennis. Cons: If you want to be anonymous or stay at a large hotel this is not for you. more

better to sleep on the beach 9/4/2006

this is a terrible bed and breakfast. pretty much everything they try to do is based around giving the lowest quality service to the customer at an outrageously high price. more
