My family of 4 stayed at Grand Wailea for 10 days in early Feb 2007. Our kids are 3 1/2 yrs old and 7 wks old (not a typo!) Anyway, the hotel is amazing. The lobby is breathtaking with its open air design, fantastic artwork and timeless design. The grounds are gorgeous and the bronze statues blend in the natural setting with ease. The pools include a swim up bar, baby pool w/ a sand bottom, sauna 2 hot tubs, slides, volleyball play area and so much more. No complaints here except beach chairs in the shade by the baby pool go quickly. The rooms are HUGE for a hotel....the cheapest rooms are 640 sf. There is not a bad room in the resort. All of the restaurants are nice but expect typical HIGH resort prices. I certainly suggest packing in groceries or travelling off the resort for food. The only negative comment I would make is their maintenance schedule is lacking. If they continue to let things go at this rate, the resort (not incl the lobby) will need a major overhaul in a few years. The rooms show signs of the high humidity (peeling wallpaper, mildew, rust, and a slight musty smell) and the pool areas have many missing or chipped tiles.) This certainly does not have an impact on your stay, but at the room prices, they should step up their maintainence schedules.
Pros: Pools, Lobby, Ocean Views
Cons: Prices, Maintenance
