Gorge Amphitheatre

I went to see the Tom Petty show on June 12, 2010. We arrived roughly an hour and a half before the opening act started. We paid for "VIP Parking" ($28) in advance of the show. But the people directing parking would not permit us to go to the VIP parking area. We ended up with general parkers. The Box Office claimed they could do nothing for us and we had to call Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster claimed they could do nothing for us since they gave all money, less their fees of course, to the Gorge. And so it continued... We had also purchased seats, unlike most concertgoers who choose to find a spot on the hillside. Nevertheless, we had to wait with all the concertgoers for nearly two hours in a large, mostly drunk and stoned crowd pushing into each other, yelling, vomiting, farting, etc. Every few minutes, the crowd lurched forward two or three feet until finally we made it to the gate where we were patted down and shoved through. We waited in the mob until 8:40 or so, when the opening act had just finished. Oh and beers are $9-$12 a piece. I know you'd pay a premium at any venue for beers. But $12 for one beer? The show, however, was amazing. Tom Petty puts on a wonderful concert. I just can't suggest to anyone that they should go see a show at the Gorge. It is absurdly disorganized and primitive considering how highly this venue is regarded. And the Gorge stole $28 from me. Pros: breathtaking scenery Cons: absolutely disorganized more

Take a round-trip bus or take your car and camp, do what it takes to experience one of the nation's most unique outdoor venues, the Gorge. Spectagular views, grassy knolls, good acoustics and a general sense of being at one with nature and the music make the Gorge a must-do getaway. The stage is set in front of the Columbia river, and seeing eagles fly above is not uncommon. Pros: views, music, unique setting Cons: camping is your only overnight option more

Experience from the 8/29/09 Nickelback show. We paid $85 for premier camping which was suppose to include a more private site, shuttle bus service to and from the concert, flushing toilets and showers. We got there mid afternoon and were directed to our "premier" camp spot in the "over-flow" section. This turned out to be exactly like the regular camp sites except further from the concert area. No big deal because of the shuttle bus service, right?? Wrong! A thousand or so of us were lined up where we were told to wait for the bus. Finally one bus showed up, parked at the back of the line and let on some people that had just got in line. After another 1/2 hour of waiting, one of the guys that works there said we would probably be better off to just walk. We walked back from the concert too, since there were no buses in sight when the concert let out. As for the flush toilets, they were located between the regular camping area and the premier camping area. Premier campers were given some stupid wrist band to wear which seemed to have zero impact on who used the flush toilets. Basically we got absolutely nothing extra for our $85 dollars. As we were leaving we tried to speak to someone in charge at the camp services trailer. Naturally he/she was unavailable... All this place does is host concerts with lots of people attending. How can they be so unorganized? It really is incredible. The actual show was great, but the way the concert venue is managed will probably keep me from returning. The Gorge Amph. is located in the most beautiful location. The Camping facilities and recreation areas are the best I've ever seen. Pros: seating capasity, camping, Inexpensive Cons: not enough concerts, short notice on dates, advance notice more

THE GORGE AMPHITHEATRE GIVES YOU AN ALMOST SPIRITUAL FEELING!! THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN TO LISTEN TO ONE OF THE MANY AMAZING GROUPS LIKE, DAVE MATHEWS BAND PLAY AT THE GORGE AMPHITHEATRE DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS IN WASHINGTON, WHILE THE SUN SETS OVER THE COLUMBIA RIVER. I have been here 3 times .Every time I have come it has been so nice and I do not believe their could be a better place to have a concert! The last time I was here It was for Ozzy and I brought my son IIt was the best! more

The gorge has been rated one of the best in the COUNTRY! We're not the only ones who love it, the performers love the atmosphere as well. Ok, so you have to drive a few hours. Just make it a weekend trip, and stay at one of the nearby campgrounds - like Desert Aire. I've been to quite a few concerts here...all of them had to compete with the outstanding view of the canyons that the Gorge at George provides. Pros: VIEWS! This is the most amazing place to experience a concert! It has a great view of the gorge, is usually hot and sunny in the summer. There is lots of space and anyone who wants to be in the front row can work there way up. Been there three times and loved it every time. Everyone needs to go there at least once to check it out, and bring all your friends 'cause the camp grounds are one huge party! Everyone should experience a concert at the Gorge. The views are amazing and the people-watching is great. General seating is fine sound-wise, but you feel pretty cut off from the concert experience. If you camp, bring plenty of sunscreen and some type of tarp to shade yourself (tents get too hot during the day). The sun is relentless and there are no trees in the campground. Bring lots of water and ice because their General Store is pretty pricey. Pros: Gorgeous views, Pretty good sound, Great atmosphere Cons: Hot and sunny, Expensive food/water more

This is a must-see venue. It's truly spectacular. I've seen many shows here and it's always worth the drive! more
