The best place to get used books in Bakersfield is the Goodwill on Rosedale Highway. They have books, boxes and more. This used to be a Goodwill that focused more on used items such as clothing, knick knacks , etc. with a small book section, but they opened up a bigger location in Rosedale and made this location into a bookstore that has tons of books and movies with a few odds and ends for sale. This is one of my favorite stores.
The prices are as follows:
Adult Books: .80 cents for paperback, .95 cents for hardcover.
Kids books: .55 cents for hardcover and paperback
Middle age/teenager books: .80 cents for paperback, .95 cents for hardcover.
Movies are usually $1.75 but sometimes if they don't have a case, they sell them for . 50 cents.
Tape is .99 each or 6 for $4.99.
I'm not sure of the price of boxes and CD's but I think that they're probably reasonable.
They have several books that they price individually, like if they think a book is worth more money or if it's a new release. Many of these, they price at 1.75 (more if it's a hardcover). They do not price all new releases higher though, I've gotten several for the .80 cent price.
I can spend to much time and too much money here. I always find something. Their kids section is so jammed with kids books that it's hard to look at them all but I do the best I can. They have 2 shelving units with 8 shelves of kids books, but they're the really long shelves with probably thousands of children's books on them. I went here this week and they also had a cart out with 4 more bins of children's books, inviting people to go through them since there was no room on the shelves! Even if I didn't have kids, I'd enjoy going through the children's books.
They have books by section: romance, lots of fiction, non fiction, westerns, science fiction/fantasy, religious, kids, school books, do it yourself books, magazines, mysteries, and so much more.
The staff is usually VERY friendly and helpful. They'll point out when you have a 1.75 book in case you thought you were getting an .80 cent one. I've never seen this store messy since it's become a bookstore and they do have a bathroom if you need to use it. They have a table between two sections so if you need to sit down and look at your merchandise, you can.
For me, this store is like sending someone with an addiction inside, somewhere they shouldn't be but they can't resist. I buy our tape here and there is no way I can walk in and out. My mind is telling me to get the tape and go but my body is already moving in the direction of the marvelous books. I wish I had unlimited funds because I'd probably go every day as they are constantly putting out new books.
This is probably one of my longest reviews of a business, which should show how wonderful this location is! During the week, they're open from 10 am to 7 pm. I'm not sure of the weekend hours.
