Response to whiny receipt reviews 8/11/2010

I love Goodmans. They have so many odds and ends that you cant help but buy on impulse as you travel the store. The employees are great but stretched thin at times. They seem to be in a hurry at times but that is expected because of all the customers that they service on a daily basis. \r I think it is funny to hear complaints about stores checking receipts....It has been my experience that Goodmans check FOR receipts. Those who complain obviously have something to hide or are just impatient. There could be worse things...how about frisking and handcuffing? Strip searching or straight up flogging those people who try to rush by without letting the employees do their job. People need to get over this "issue" and relax. If you truly want to complain about something, try the Oregon law that requires an employee pump your gas for you...its nice and all until you are waiting for the ONE employee to pump six cars and you are the seventh to pull up. Take a chill pill, or a xanex or whatever yo more

Love Goodmans popcorn, candy and hometown frienliness 5/28/2010

I love Goodman's! Where else do you find a popcorn machine with hot popcorn for everyone, a candy dish next to the entrance, and friendly store employees everywhere to help you find things. Try to find help at Home Depot! \r \r They have Lady's Day every Wednesday, with a discount on women's purchases, which is just as unique as the popcorn popper and candy dish. They are the original hardware store in this area, a real home town treasure. The employees are friendly, willing to spend a lot of time with me when I don't know what size screws and washers to buy, or what kind of wood or stain I need for a project. \r \r It is true that they check receipts when people walk out the store, to make sure everyone has actually gone through checkout. The exit is set up so it is easy to walk out the door without ever checking out... and there are people in this world who don't pay for things if they can avoid it. more

Bad Policy 3/22/2009

I have been a customer of Goodman's for over 20 years. Recently I have been asked each time upon leaving the store for my receipt. Today I have had enough of this infringement of my civil rights. To stop customers without cause is essentially a false arrest. And for me to be treated like I have stolen anything pisses me off no end. From here on, when stopped and asked to a receipt, I will decline and continue to my car. Better yet. I'll just do my shopping at Home Depot. It's also better than Goodman's prices without the aggravation. more

I only go there because it's convinenient--mostly because it is near my yard and I can generally go there for last minute parts or materials. The problem is often times when you go in there you get so confused with all of the idiotic employees that don't know what your talking about so you have to go somewhere else anyways....goodmans needs a lot of work and needs to quit hiring recovering drug addicts more

This company is what inspired all the other lumbar company to build. What they are lacking however is the one on one attention that goodman provides. This is old fashion lumbar company. more

Goodmans??? 1/28/2006

I have been a loyal customer of Goodmans, going on20 years. Last week I purchased a $6.99 bag of pellets for my pellet stove, my only source of heat. The bag had been taped up. Apparently the bag was taped because the pellets were exposed to moisture. Once I put the "pellets" in my stove I realized it was mostly sawdust. This sawdust clogged the gears and the stove doesn't work. I want Mr Zviky the owner of Goodmans to fix this stove or a least speak to me. He sold a defective product.. I have called him numerous times to contact him, COMPLETE STONEWALL The man knows my two kids and I have a stove he broke and he refuses to deal. Goodmans????. more

Good local hardware store 7/15/2005

It's nice to going into this local hardware store, because you are getting so much better service than what you would find at these bigger home improvement stores. The selection is great--you can find more specialty type items here than you can at the bigger stores. The prices are a bit higher, but you come away knowing you bought the right items. Great store, great service and great products. more

You'll get the supplies you need with a good laugh before you leave 7/2/2005

My husband and I frequent this hardware store because it's close and we are remodeling our apartment. We always find what we're looking for and the service is humorous and top notch. They also have a "help yourself" popcorn machine, which makes for a very nice treat while standing in line. They offer a value card for any customer to sign up for which does give great savings. It feels good to support your local hardware store, instead of large chain stores and the prices are no more expensive, either. more
