FRAUD!!!!DO NOT GO HERE! THEY LITERALLY STEEL FROM YOU\r in in my opinion. they charged a credit card for a personal trainer that they actually never told me about, and if"" somehow"" i didn't hear them, than they never honored their contract by presenting me with one. seriously everrr. they had many opportunities when i had questions!...many!! (same people signed me up)\r \r not only that. when i went to talk to them about this they told me that they can not refund the money to my credit card (though it was taken out of there). i found this to be extremely bizarre as i have worked at multiple gyms in the past, and from personal experience, I KNOW THAT IS A LIE. \r \r they said that i have to wait 2 weeks for the check. i responded ""why not write it to me now?"" they said they're not authorized to do so.\r a few minutes into it, when i found other LEGAL ISSUES with the contract they ACTUALLY brought in a supervisor...go figure!\r \r they still didn't write me the check, though, they had told me that the only issue with it is the super visor. \r than they told me some craziness about never having spoken to me prior to my signing up with them....is that even possible? i have phone logs and emails here COM ON!\r \r THIS PLACE IS FOR SURE GOING TO BE REPORTED TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. AS I'M GOING TO DO IT MY SELF AND GATHER THOSE WITH A SIMILAR INTEREST TO INVESTIGATE THIS PLACE!!!\r \r PS. this place was already shut down on numerous occasions, but somehow, THE SAME OWNER, keeps re-opening the same gym. with the same scams preformed by the same employees.\r \r what is going on here. we need to put an end to this!!!!!!! more

DO NOT GO HERE 5/6/2011

IDO NOT GO TO GOLD'S GYM. READ ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE BEFORE YOU RISK IT. Let me tell you about my experiences with this horrible establishment. First, I went into the gym to have a look around and speak about membership prices. For the next four days after my visit, I was almost harassed by one of the membership salespeople, Steve, who called me 12 times the first day, 10 times the next day, 10 times the day after that and finally 5 times the day after that, at which point I answered and told him to stop calling because I was studying for midterms, which I had told him from the beginning as to why I wasn't immediately signing up. Then, I decided to give them another try and signed up with an appointment with a personal trainer who then double booked me and canceled my session. After that, (I only kept trying because I live very close), I went in one more time and had one of the worst experiences I have ever had anywhere. I met with another personal trainer and when we were about to work out, I asked her what I should do with my belongings. She told me I should put my iPhone 4 and my keys at the front desk and they would hold them for me. When we got back from the workout, I went to the front desk and was handed my keys but not my phone. I was quickly ushered into the back office and told to use their phone to call my mom to make sure the membership was okay (also, while Mo, the manager, was trying to sell my mother on membership, he told her how much I weighed, which is very private information that I didn't want her to know). They were having me sign membership papers until I finally said, I need to have my phone before I do anything, at which point they told me it had been stolen. I started panicking because I need my iPhone for my job as well as for the duties I have as a research assistant, for which I got hired because I had a smartphone. In addition, I had just put my credit card number on my phone before going to the gym so that I could sign up. I filed a police report and hurried over to Capitola Mall, where I was forced to max out my credit card and purchase another smart phone. The next day, I woke up at 8:30am to go and speak to Al, the owner. He was apparently busy so I left my phone number and a message to please call me. By 2pm that day I still hadn't heard from him so I called again, only to find out that he was off at the store so I left my phone number again. At 5pm I called again and he had left for the day. The next day, I called twice between 10am and 11am, both of which he was busy until I finally just went into the gym. I asked to look at the video footage, which the managers and the employees said that only he had access to, but he claimed that he didn't have any video footage of the front desk. I then nicely explained to him that I am a student with very little income, that I am extremely responsible with my belongings and have never had my iPhone lost or stolen in five years of owning it and that I felt he should replace my phone. He rudely said, that's probably not going to happen because he ""wasn't even there."" And told me that I could take him to Small Claims Court and ended our conversation abruptly. IF YOU WANT TO GO TO A NICER GYM WITH INCREDIBLY EASY-GOING AND KIND EMPLOYEES, AS WELL AS EQUIPMENT THAT IS FAR BETTER QUALITY AND A GYM THAT IS THREE TIMES THE SIZE OF THE TINY, PACKED ROOM KNOWN AS GOLD'S GYM, SIGN UP WITH TOADAL FITNESS. GOLD'S GYM IS A HORRIBLE ESTABLISHMENT. more

RE: Not a nice place... 6/3/2009

I am the new manager at Gold's Gym and I have worked here on and off since 2003. \r \r In regard to the comment below there are a couple issues. \r \r 1. Nobody named Derek ever worked here. \r 2. I'm not sure what the point is when the user below made the comment about being away for 3 weeks and then coming back only to be lectured by someone named Derek. This seems extremely unlikely because the user doesn't say anything about trying to get out of paying for the time he/she was gone, he/she simply makes a statement about being gone for 3 weeks. \r \r We may have a corporate name which doesn't go over well with some people in Santa Cruz, but I can assure you that we are a very local business and support more of the Santa Cruz community than most of the other ""local"" businesses. There have been countless occasions where we help people out with their memberships if they have issues, so to make a statement like the one below is to commit libel against our business. \r \r If you want to see for yourself, come in and take a look around. 90% of our staff are college students, not sales people. We will not drag you into a room and try to sell you a membership, we'll be honest and up front and we'll try to find the best deal that works for you. \r \r I honestly encourage you to disregard the anonymous comment below as it is completely untrue in every aspect regarding our gym. \r \r Thank you, \r Julian Faras\r General Manager\r \r more
