Diversity - Simple - Poor Maintenance 5/4/2009

I have belonged to this gym since it has opened. What is good about it is that they have a large variety of equipment, and plenty of choices as far as that goes. It's a good place for a serious work out. Not sure what the other people are talking about as far as feeling that people were bothering them too much. Howver, they have a very large and open layout, so if your are self-conscious, this is not a good place for you. It is not very private feeling. It is open and airy.\r \r The bathrooms are clean and the general cleanliness seems fine to me. I thought it better in this regard than another local club I checked out. \r \r Another nice thing is that membership is not terribly expensive. I've looked at other clubs in the area, and the price is defiently best here.\r \r What is bad about this gym is that the maintenance is not as good as it should be. Specifically, sometimes pads on the equipment are worn out or loose, the little plates that show different weights on the Lifecycle machines fall off, and 10 of the hanging TV sets are broken. They defiently could step up repairs.\r \r Another issue is that there tends to be a bunch of kids in the jacuzzi...wearing their street shorts. Really, the club should chase them out.\r \r Since the new parking garage is open, parking is no longer an issue.\r \r So...if you want a no-frills place to work out, at a reasonable price, are not self-conscious, and can put up with a few inconveniences, great. If this is not you, you'd probably be better off somewhere else. Pros: Good variety of equipment. Cons: The equipment is not always well maintained. more

I Wasn't Comfortable There 3/11/2009

I had to leave this gym. I just wasn't comfortable. Like someone else on here mentioned, you get checked out constantly. They are connected with the Redondo location and I ended up paying the extra for the travel pass so I could go to that gym without all the pervs. Can I get a workout in without some random guy trying to get at me? And I look horrible at the gym, what is that?! Can I take yoga and do a down dog without guys just standing by the window looking in? Of course not! Not cool. Another thing that bothered me was feeling excluded. There are a lot of Hispanics that work here and workout here, and I would be in classes where the teacher would start instructing the class in Spanish and I had no clue what she was saying (actually two teachers did that). more

Good Equipment, but bad layout 4/3/2007

For a Golds Gym, the layout is unacceptable. \r The cardio machine and TV face the weight and equipment floor. Perfert home of the ""Peeping Toms"".\r \r Members will get on certain cardio machines just to get a view of who is working out on the wt floor and just check them out. Very annoying.\r \r Most gym have separate Cardio and separate weight area. By having the cardio machines facing the wt. floor, you just have the feeling (which you are right) the the folks on the cardio machines are checking you out. The wt machines directly in front of the cardio machine get teh least amount of usage.\r \r Gold's should consider, turning the cardio machine the other way, facing the entrance, and move the TVs to the entrance side. Therefor the people on the cardio machine and the wt floor can see the TVs.\r \r I am not a fan of TVs in gyms and I am not a fan of cardio machines facing the gym wt. floor. It is not a good layout for the members. Pros: Good, new, modern equipment Cons: Floor plan layout of cardio and wt. equipment. more

Good gym 1/19/2006

This a beautiful new facility, and the only Gold's I have ever seen with a pool. This gym is spacious and well equipped with plentiful new equipment. So far it's not crowed, even after work. While not for me, they do even have the pilates machines in the spinning room. Clientele appears to be pretty diverse. Only downside is a lack of dedicated parking; it's all street parking. Pros: New facility, not crowded, plentiful equipment Cons: Limited parking more
