I am afraid to buy "fresh food" from Golden Phoenix. Their seafood and meat don't look fresh at all and it makes me wonder if it is even sanitary. I remember when I went there once on a hot day, I could see flies flying around all over the store. However, if you do live nearby, this is a good place to by dry goods, cooking sauce and other non perishables there. more

Run of the Mill Asian Supermarket 8/16/2005

Golden Phoenix is a random asian supermarket located in the west part of Mountain View, on the corner of Rengstorff Ave and Middlefield Rd. It stocks a variety of asian foods including noodles, asian soups, and lots of chinese cooking sauces. There is also a deli and a live seafood bar, but the selection of seafood you can pick from seems a bit stale and pre-frozen. It's not necessarily the freshest food I've seen. Prices at Golden Phoenix are so-so. They aren't terribly cheap compared to other asian supermarkets like 99 Ranch, but they aren't too expensive either. If you live in Mtn View, the convienience of Golden Phoenix is great since the nearest large asian supermarket is over ten miles away. more

It's no 99 Ranch but it will do. 8/5/2005

If you're looking for asian groceries but you're too lazy to go to the local 99 Ranch branch then this is the place for you. They have a variety of seafood and asian vegetables. Definitely more ethnic options than your local Safeway and Albertson's. I have found that this grocery store doesnt cater to many indian delicacies or ingredients. They also seem to exclude many Korean ingredients. It's local though and you will definitely not experience the mayhem of people at your typical 99 Ranch. more

Very Good Market 7/16/2005

This Asian grocery store has one of the best fresh meat and fish markets in the area, plus it offers a wide selection of food and condiments, including the unparalleled (Japanese) Kasagi Hot Roasted Peas (I love wasabi!) It’s a good-sized store with all manner of nifty items there that you will want to eat. Be prepared to browse. It carries varieties of Kool-Aid you won’t find at Safeway. (Try the Mango.) And if you want varieties of produce that Safeway doesn’t carry this is a great start. The meat prices can’t be beat. (Opened by Hon Lien, a Chinese-Vietnamese woman, and her husband Andrew Do, this market has revitalized the little shopping center where it sits.) more
