ox meat for sure 1/13/2003

I've made the mistake of eating at the Golden Ox several times in the last three years. I have never gotten a good steak or good service. The place is highly overated and a real disappointment to a serious steak lover. I'm embarassed when friends from out of town insist on eating there when we have both Plaza III and Ruth's Chris to choose from. more

I brought guests to the Ox and was embarressed. the service was lousy, the salad was terrible and the steak was tough and dry. our waitress kept saying""I am sorry"" she was correct! more

Best Steak in Kansas City!!! Steak was done to perfection with no fat. Salad was crisp and cold. Everything that was supposed to be hot, was hot. more

Great Place..Great Steak....Great Price. Thel only real downside to the OX is the location. (Down near the Stock Yards and Kemper Arena). The decor is old...remodled God only knows when. Servers are good, but don't necessarily have a great attitude. Not a place for the fancy or elite crowd. More like a place to meet J.R. Best Period 1/2/2003

I grew up in KC and the Ox was the place then and as I travel and go back to KC on occassion I still think it's the best for the money. The atmosphere, the service and not to mention the meat all tell me this is the place for a steak. more

Pretty good 12/19/2002

I would rate Golden Ox second to Ruth Chris steak house. They cost a bit more, but their steak is the best. Pros: Good food more

Bummer dude 12/19/2002

$21.95 for a 7 oz filet mignon and it was tough as shoe leather and grizzly! I ordered it ""medium"" and it came ""rare"". Baked potato came unopened and without any extras. Salad was iceberg lettuce with hardly any dressing. Crowded and noisy restaurant on the wrong side of town. more

WOW! What a steak! 12/3/2002

I have eaten at the Golden Ox many times, and have never been disappointed. From the ""baseball cut"" top sirloin that my teenage son loves to the prime rib that suits my fancy, all the food is fantastic! Great service and wonderful ambience put the Golden Ox at the top of steak houses in the nation! Pros: Good parking Cons: Need good directions more

Down the Tubes 11/1/2002

Golden Ox used to be our favorite. In 30 years of eating there, I never had a bad meal until 2001. Something changed there. We have had 4 bad meals in a row. Four strikes and they're out. We won't go back. Everything from poor quality meat (horrible gristle in prime rib and fillet mignon? Yup) Burned baked potatoes? Yup three different times. Even the ranch dressing tasted horrible the last time. The service just got worse with each visit. We should have asked for our money back but we didn't want to make a scene. We won't ever go back Pros: from best to worst Cons: poor cuts of beef, burned Baked Potatoes, Service was bad too more

Old Fashioned Good Service and Food 9/7/2002

This place reminds me of the steakhouses I visited with my folks on very special occaisions. Now we have the occaision to go whenever we'd like, within a budget, but it holds alot of the charm. There is a salad with greens, red onion, tomato and blue cheese crumbles that will make you ""mmm"" and ""ohhh"" as you eat, you will almost forget you have a meal coming! The prime rib is superb, and they have a long wine and scotch list. Very nice for entertaining out of towners. Pros: Best tasting Primerib, Service and Ambiance Cons: Obscure part of town more
