Beware of this facility, My father was a resident of Golden living portside. He was diagnosed with severe demensia and alzheimers. My choice to place him in Golden living was based on there Alzheimer's care facility. Do to his illness my father was difficult to deal with and duing the admitting process my wife and I explained the difficulties and the golden living administration reviewed his records and interviewed the facility he was moving from. They were well aware of the difficulties.
Within a few months golden living tried to illegally terminate his residency as we had a contract that reqired them to give 30 days notice.They intended to tranfere him to a Behavioral health facilitly. I prevented the transfer and tried to work out a program to help care for my father. The plan was to have him see a Dr. and from the recommendation work on a program to change his behavior. The facility director was in aggreement with this plan. The doctor did see my father but did'nt follow up with me. The director failed to set up a meeting and the matter was dropped. Several more months went by and the facility finally did terminate his residency. They sent him to the behavioral health facility were there were no beds available. My father had to stay in the hospital until beds were available and he did end up in the behavior health facility. Golden living terminated his residency and never sent his personal belongings with him. He was without clothing and worst of all his glasses. Imagine a 81 yr. old man very sick and scared without clear sight and no family to help him.
My father passed away at 8:50 am 6/20/2012, he had some type of virus and just before his release passed away. The hospital tried to notify me of his passing but, never was given my contact information.
Please if you care for your loved one avoid this facility. The management is poor and the facility is very unorganized. My wife and I picked up my father belongings on 6/21/2012. Come to find out they didn't even have the correct phone number on file. We had to return the following day as they couldn't locate all his belonings. His glasses were in a zip lock bag broken. I wonder how long my dad went without them.
